The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully integrated the Form M process into the B’Odogwu Trade Portal through a pilot scheme across three commands.

The pilot scheme was implemented at Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML), Tin Can Island Port, and Apapa Area Command.

Spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

He explained that these sites were selected to enable strategic testing, close monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and effective performance evaluation.

During the pilot, 544 Form M entries were processed. Out of these, 283 were registered, 10 validated, and 26 stored for future action.

Also, 41 entries were submitted, 120 returned for corrections, 11 queried, 14 had PAARs locked, and 39 were recommended for approval.

Maiwada said the figures show strong testing and learning across all participating commands during the pilot exercise.

He added that 37 Pre-Arrival Assessment Reports (PAARs) were generated from the Forms M processed during the pilot.

Of these, seven PAARs were registered, 12 had their SGDs processed, and two were fully approved.

Eight PAARs were recommended for further review, four submitted for processing, and four were queried.

He said the outcome confirms B’Odogwu’s capacity to support complete trade documentation during live operations.

Maiwada noted the initiative marks a major milestone in the NCS’s tech-driven reform agenda to modernise trade processes.

He stated that the Form M pilot success indicates the start of a nationwide shift in Customs operations.

According to him, the transition aims to simplify documentation, improve transparency, and reduce cargo clearance timeframes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that following the pilot’s success, carriers are now advised to begin transmitting manifests to the B’Odogwu platform.

“To enhance trade facilitation, NCS urges all carriers, including shipping lines and airlines, to adopt the new platform,” Maiwada stated.

He emphasised the need for stakeholder readiness, particularly among banks and traders, ahead of full implementation.

Maiwada described the Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi, as a forward-thinking leader focused on strategic service automation.

NAN also reports that the Trade Modernisation Project introduced the B’Odogwu platformk
The platform automates trade operations and enables traders to track transactions from initiation to final delivery.

Shocking JAMB Results, Consequences Of Decades Of Nigeria’s Underinvestment In Education- Says Peter Obi

0

“I just came across the official results from JAMB showing the recent exam figures.
“According to the data shared, a total of 1,955,069 candidates sat for the exam.
Shockingly, out of this number, only about 420,000 candidates scored above 200, while over 1.5 million scored below 200.

“This means that over 78% of the total candidates failed to meet the 200-mark threshold — a reflection of the deep-rooted challenges in our educational system.

“The latest JAMB results once again highlight the consequences of decades of underinvestment in education, a sector that should be central to our national development strategy.

“Currently, Nigeria’s total university enrollment stands at approximately 2 million students. By comparison, the National University of Bangladesh — a single university — has over 3.4 million students enrolled, despite the country having only about 75% of Nigeria’s population. One university in Bangladesh surpasses the entire university enrollment in Nigeria.

“Bangladesh, which once lagged behind Nigeria in virtually every measurable development index, now surpasses us in all key areas of development and in the Human Development Index (HDI).

“Similarly, Turkey, with a population of about 87.7 million people, has over 7 million university students — more than three times Nigeria’s total university enrollment.

“I have consistently said it: education is not just a social service; it is a strategic investment. It is the most critical driver of national development and the most powerful tool for lifting people out of poverty.

“We must now invest aggressively in education — at all levels — if we are serious about building a prosperous, secure, and equitable Nigeria.

Says Publication Is Vendetta- Driven Aimed At Tarnishing Reputation Of Chief Brodrick Bozimo

The Management of BB Hotel and Suite, located at No 32/34 Deco Road, Warri Delta State, has distanced Chief Broderick Bozimo from its day-to-day operations.

A Director of the Hotel, Mr Ayodele Adenola, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday.

The statement reacting to a recent publication by an online platform on the alleged trafficking of a 14 year-old girl disclosed that the hotel had been leased to Nanet Hotels Ltd for over four and a half years, and the owner, Chief B. Bozimo, has handed off to the new management.

The statement stated that Nanet Hotels Ltd is seeking legal redress for human rights violations and defamation, noting that the owner has not engaged in any negotiation or oppression regarding these false allegations.

“We categorically state that there was no incident of trafficking or kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl at BB Hotel. The PEBNews article appears to be a vendetta-driven publication aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Chief Brodrick Bozimo and the hotel.

“We urge the public and social media users to disregard this false publication.
Management”

Recall that PEBNews.com on Sunday, 4th May 2025 reported that Policemen from “B” Division in Warri, Delta State had arrested BB Hotel Manager, Chizoba Okafor, and a Pool attendant, Chika Emmanuel over an alleged adoption and trafficking of a fourteen(14) year old girl (name withheld) in the hotel for one month. The girl, who is a JSS student, was also threatened and forced into child labor during the period.

The online platform even though confirmed in its publication that when contacted for comments, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe confirmed the report in a WhatsApp message sent to their Correspondent in Warri “but he stressed that he doesn’t know about the identity of the owner pls.”

The Nanet Hotels Ltd fumed that while the police who are reportedly handling the investigation are silent on the ownership, it is mischievous for anybody to drag respected Chief Broderick Bozimo to the mud via the false report.

Nigeria: Committee Urges NCS To Continuously Refine Risk Assessment Protocols

0

By Martha Agas

The Customs Consultative Committee (CCC) has urged the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to continuously refine its risk assessment protocols.

The committee made the call in a statement by its Secretary, Eugene Nweke , on Monday in Abuja.

According to Nweke, the move is critical to consolidate on the achievements of NCS’s exceptional performance in enforcing import regulations and generating revenue under the National Strategic Economic Development Plan (NSEDP).

“The CCC acknowledges the NCS’s achievements in intercepting prohibited and restricted imports, including unregistered pharmaceuticals and expired margarines, at the Apapa Port Command.

“The seizure of eleven containers with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N921.021 million is a testament to the service’s commitment to national security and economic growth,” he said.

Nweke urged the NCS to also leverage on advanced technologies to enhance its operations.

He said that the service should organise workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate the trading public on the provisions and implications of the new NCS Act 2023.

He said that it should also provide ongoing training and capacity-building programmes for NCS officers, and foster stronger relationships with stakeholders to promote compliance and trade facilitation.

According to Nweke, the CCC wants the Nigeria Customs to reinforce the seven Cs of Customs which are courtesy, competence, consistency, compliance, control, communication, and compliance

“The service should also upgrade the server infrastructure and bandwidth to support the B’Odogwu platform, ensuring seamless transactions and minimising system downtime.

“The CCC also suggests best practices, including international cooperation, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

“Going forward, the CCC urges the NCS to implement these recommendations within the next six months, and expresses confidence in the service’s ability to continue delivering outstanding results,”he said.

The secretary said that the CCC would continue to support the NCS’s efforts and looked forward to continued collaboration.

“The CCC appreciates the leadership of the Comptroller- General, Adewale Adeniyi, and other officials for their vision and commitment to excellence.

“Their leadership has been instrumental in driving the service’s performance and ensuring the effective implementation of the NSEDP,” he said.

Mining Marshals Shut Down Illegal Mining Site In Kaduna Community

0

By Martha Agas

The Mining Marshals have shut down an illegal tin mining site in Damau community, Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, confirmed this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori, on Monday in Abuja.

Alake said non-kinetic measures were employed in the operation, combining community engagement and diplomacy to secure the success.

“The operation focused on a tin-rich site legally owned by Trobell Minerals Limited, which had been occupied by illegal miners for several months.

”Community members reported that the activities had caused significant economic losses, environmental degradation, and heightened insecurity in the area,” he said.

He explained that coercive measures as enforcement method were suspended, as the marshals prioritised dialogue, consulted traditional leaders, and mobilised local support.

According to him, this approach led to the peaceful exit of the illegal miners under official supervision without incident.

The minister said that a respectable community leader had described the diplomatic approach as commendable, as the illegal activities had posed a serious threat to lives, livelihoods, and investment, and that the intervention brought a much-needed relief.

“The peaceful resolution in Damau contrasts with previous clashes at illegal sites in other parts of the country where enforcement operations have often turned confrontational,” he said.

Alake urged communities nationwide to support the Federal Government’s efforts to combat illegal mining by cooperating with the Mining Marshals to identify and apprehend offenders.

“The Kaduna operation could serve as a model for future interventions if we get the buy-in of locals and community leaders.

“Illegal mining and insecurity remain major obstacles to the development of the mining sector.

”However, the outcome in Damau offers a glimpse of how a mix of enforcement and dialogue can turn the tide.

“I urge communities to cooperate with us to deal with this menace and restore investor confidence in the sector,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government has arrested 327 suspects and prosecuted 143 for illegal mining since the Marshals began operations in 2024.

The Marshals, drawn from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were trained in tactical skills to combat illegal miners, bandits, and other criminal elements.

Rejoinder To Chief Femi Fani-Kayode Your Commentary Misses The Mark Entirely, By Dr. Elias N. Lamle

0

Dear Chief Femi Fani-Kayode,
I write this rejoinder not out of a desire to trade insults, but out of a moral imperative as a Plateau patriot and a God-fearing Nigerian who loves justice. I am not acting under the instructions of the Plateau State Government nor do I have the backing of any state apparatus. Rather, I speak as a university academic moved by conscience and a sense of corporate social responsibility.

Ordinarily, I would not have responded to your article, “You Have Bigger Problems to Face Than Worrying About Me”, recently published in the Daily Trust e-pages. However, the glaring distortions and lack of constructive content in your write-up demand correction—lest silence be mistaken for assent.

Your piece, sir, reads more like a reactionary rant than a thoughtful critique. It lacks depth, logic, and, worst of all, Christian grace. What you offered the Nigerian public is not an informed perspective but a poorly concealed attempt to sensationalize an issue that has nothing to do with the morality you pretend to champion. You took issue with Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s decision to welcome Israeli diplomats seeking to partner with Plateau State on agricultural development. According to your logic, this gesture was insensitive due to Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza. Let us be honest—your outrage is misplaced, misinformed, and misleading.

Shall we then cancel all diplomatic engagements with every nation embroiled in conflict? Should Plateau State halt all developmental partnerships because of global politics it neither caused nor can control? Your position, sir, is both illogical and hypocritical. If every Nigerian leader were to adopt such a stance, we would be cutting ties with almost every world power—Russia, China, the United States—because they have all been parties to conflict at some point. Are you saying we should live in isolation? That a governor striving to improve agriculture, fight hunger, and create jobs should be shackled by foreign wars? That’s not morality, Chief—it’s ideological extremism.

Let’s assume for argument’s sake that your criticism was made in good faith. Even then, your understanding of international relations is woefully shallow. Diplomatic engagements are not endorsements of a country’s internal policies; they are acts of pragmatism designed to serve local needs. Egypt, Jordan, and even Saudi Arabia—countries with deep Islamic identities—maintain diplomatic relations with Israel while also mediating in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These nations understand that economic development and foreign policy can run parallel without contradicting each other. Why then should Plateau State, which shares no border or direct involvement with the conflict in Gaza, be denied the opportunity to develop?

Or is this really not about Gaza? Could it be that your real aim is to undermine a governor whose calm resolve and disciplined leadership unsettle the loud theatrics you so often display? Your accusations smell more of mischief than morality. Plateau people are not fools—we see through the razzmatazz. Your posturing is becoming a tired act.
Most alarming, however, is your audacious advice that the governor should “take the money of the Israelis… but never trust them.” Sir, that is not counsel—it is corruption disguised as diplomacy. It is a prescription for fraud dressed up in political garb. You have essentially urged a sitting governor to enter into a partnership under false pretenses—to receive aid or assistance while harboring dishonesty. That is nothing short of incitement to deception. Is this what you call Christian leadership?

I ask you plainly: Whose Christ do you serve? Certainly not the Christ of the Scriptures who called for integrity, transparency, and love—even for enemies. Your kind of spiritual advice is dangerous. It’s the same mindset that has led Nigeria into the pit of corruption and hypocrisy. You, who often quote scripture and speak of faith, now recommend deception as state policy. That is not just wrong—it is spiritually bankrupt.

The Plateau people are not deceptive. We are honest, resilient, and proud. We value trust and honor in all our dealings. Governor Mutfwang, in engaging with Israeli diplomats, has not betrayed any cause. He has acted in line with the values of service, innovation, and accountability. He does not wear Christianity on his sleeve while encouraging dishonesty behind closed doors. Your suggestion is beneath even the lowest expectations of responsible commentary.

You have also, without evidence or insight, labeled Governor Mutfwang a coward. That is a grave and baseless accusation. Let me remind you, sir, that he hails from the Mwaghavul people of Plateau State—a people forged in centuries of resistance. These are no strangers to conflict, oppression, or aggression. The jihadist campaigns of Usman Dan Fodio bypassed them—not because they were unknown, but because they were unconquerable. They dwell on the heights, both physically and metaphorically.

Governor Mutfwang is a son of these mountains. His strength is not in bombast or media frenzy, but in resolve, principle, and strategic endurance. You may confuse his restraint for weakness, but those who understand leadership know that true strength often comes clothed in calm. The governor does not shout. He acts. He doesn’t stoke division; he fosters unity. And he doesn’t parade piety only to promote deception.
Chief Fani-Kayode, your loudness is not courage. Volume is not virtue. Platitudes are not policy. Real leadership is quiet strength anchored in truth. And that is what Governor Mutfwang embodies. The Plateau people are watching—and they know the difference between theatrics and leadership.

You claim to champion Christianity, yet your own words are devoid of grace. You advocate distrust while calling yourself a patriot. You seek relevance by sowing division. That is not noble. That is not spiritual. And it certainly is not Christian.

As a son of Plateau, I call on you to retract your misleading and dangerous commentary. Nigeria is a fragile nation. The last thing we need is political dramatists turning diplomacy into demagoguery. We need healing, unity, and progress—not self-appointed prophets hurling stones from glass pulpits.

In closing, Chief, I ask that you reflect—not react. Learn—not lash out. Build—not burn. There is still time to align your platform with the values you so often claim to represent. Stop attacking those who work in humility to bring solutions to our people. Plateau deserves better. Nigeria deserves better. And frankly, so do you.

May God have mercy on us all.

Sincerely,

A Plateau Patriot Who Fears God, Loves Justice, and Will Not Keep Silent in the Face of Falsehood

Nigeria: Release IPOB Leader, Focus On Real Terror Groups, Sponsors – CJREN Writes Tinubu

0
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria

By Achadu Gabriel

Centre for Justice on Religious and Ethnicity in Nigeria (CJREN) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the leader of IPOB Nnamdi Kanu, alleging that members of terrorists group and their sponsors are operating freely in Nigeria,

The Director General of the Centre Rev. Dikwa made assertion in an open letter addressed to President Tinubu tagged: “Release Nnamdi Kanu.”

The Borno born Rights Activist lamented that despite killing thousands of innocent Nigerians across states, the government has not taken any decisive action against the terror group.

In contrast, he said the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu advocated for the rights of the Igbo people, seeking justice, equity, and fairness, asserting that some Northern leaders seem to be using terrorism to achieve their goals.

In the statement, Rev Dikwa stated that “Members and leaders of Fulani herdsmen, kidnappers, bandits, Boko Haram, and ISWAP terrorist groups, along with their sponsors, appear to be operating freely in Nigeria.

“Despite killing thousands of innocent Nigerians, allegedly in the name of Islamization, the government has not taken decisive action against them.

“Nnamdi Kanu advocates for the rights of the Igbo people, seeking justice, equity, and fairness. In contrast, some Northern Muslim leaders seem to use terrorism to achieve their goals”, he stated

According to him, “During former President Goodluck Jonathan’s regime, senior Boko Haram leader Kabiru Sokoto was arrested in Abuja. However, the Borno State government allegedly hid him.

“Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume “was also arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) for alleged sponsorship of Boko Haram and spent 21 days in custody. The case is reportedly still ongoing at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

“When President Muhammadu Buhari took over from President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, he exonerated Senator Ali Ndume from prosecution, effectively ending the case. During his regime, publications revealed sponsors of terrorist groups, but none were prosecuted despite government promises”, he revealed.

He also stated that “Terrorist groups seem to be more recognized and protected than law-abiding citizens. Fulani herdsmen and other terrorist groups continue to kill innocent Nigerians and go free, while citizens who defend themselves may face arrest and prosecution”.

“The case of Mr. Sunday in Adamawa State illustrates this bias. After being attacked by a Fulani herdsman, Mr. Sunday defended himself and killed the attacker, but was sentenced to death by hanging.

“The Federal Government should stop supporting terrorist groups seeking to take over people’s land and religion. About 98 communities in Plateau State have been taken over by these groups. We urge the government to recover these communities.

“The situation in Gwoza, Borno State, is similar, where the Boko Haram terrorist group has taken over the Christian community for over ten years, displacing thousands of Christians”, he noted.

Rev. Dikwa therefore called on the international community to intervene in Nnamdi Kanu’s matter and urge all Igbo people to unite in seeking justice and fairness for their son.

He recalled that “retired General TY Danjuma’s advice on self-defense is commendable. Citizens should not fold their arms and allow terrorist groups to attack them. It’s notable that those responsible for killing thousands of innocent Nigerian citizens have been granted amnesty.

“They’re referred to as Repentant Boko Haram and ISWAP, with their past actions seemingly forgiven.

“The Borno State Government is reportedly taking care of them. Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu is advocating for the rights and freedom of his people while being detained. This situation appears to be an attempt to intimidate, harass, and frustrate him and the entire region.

“One of the problems Nigeria faces is that some northern Muslim politicians, traditional rulers, and Islamic scholars seem to have an agenda for the Islamization of Nigeria. In contrast, Christian politicians, traditional rulers, and church leaders appear to be less proactive in defending their people’s rights and interests”, he added.

He stated that “On April 30, 2025, around 12:00 am, a military armory at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, caught fire, destroying arms and ammunition intended to fight Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorist groups in the north-East.

“The insurgency persists, likely due to the Nigerian government’s lack of resolve to bring it to an end. Some speculate that sponsors of the Islamic agenda behind Boko Haram and ISWAP hold influential positions in government.

Rev Dikwa also recalled that during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime, some Boko Haram and ISWAP members were recruited into the Nigerian military under the guise of “repentance” programs.

He said to effectively combat Boko Haram and ISWAP, the government would need to take decisive action, including disengaging and dismissing any recruited members from the military and holding them accountable for their actions.

To him, government’s inaction will likely continue to result in the loss of innocent lives, including those of military officers. To end the insurgency, a clear and resolute approach is necessary.
