Nigerian Military Tasks Christian Clerics On Peace, Unity

By Smart Emmanuel

Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has urged Christian clergy to always preach peace to their congregations during church services and order programs.

The CDS made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at its Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The Military Chief said the visit is aimed at building a mutual relationship between the military and the religious leaders in promoting unity, progress and development of the country.

General Musa further appealed to the association to pray for the military to succeed in the tasks ahead of them, especially in this critical time when the country is being bedevilled by the activities of bandits, insurgents, and other criminal elements disrupting peace and economic stability of the country.

While appreciating the military chief for the visit, the President of CAN, Arch Bishop Daniel Okor, said CAN remains committed to supporting the Nigerian Military in all ramifications.

The Bishop said the association will not relent in coming up with suggestions to strengthen their relationship with the military and to foster peace, unity, and National cohesion among the ethno-religious groups in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the CDS, General Christopher Musa Gwabin less than a week ago, visited the Supreme Council of the Islamic Affairs of Nigeria at the Abuja Central Mosque all aimed at fostering understanding, peace, unity and security in Nigeria.
