British Government is to support Jigawa State in poverty alleviation focusing on cash transfers and wealth creation.
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria,Mr. Richard Montgomery made the pledge during a working visit to the State Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse.
Mr. Montgomery recalled the longstanding partnership between the British government and the State for over two decades, noting that the successful collaboration in numerous projects have positively impacted on the people of the State.
He expressed delight with the state’s remarkable performance in these projects.
Montgomery, also commended Governor Namadi for his commitment and persistent efforts in ensuring the success of their shared projects., “You are one of the architects of our partnership with Jigawa State,” acknowledging Governor Namadi’s pivotal role even during his tenure as the deputy governor.
“In light of the prevailing global challenges of devaluation and inflation, Mr. Montgomery announced plans to introduce enhanced programs aimed at addressing these issues which include focusing on cash transfers, economic empowerment, and wealth creation, targeted towards alleviating the challenges faced by ordinary citizens”.
He further pledged increased support for the health and education sectors in Jigawa State, interventions in the agricultural sector, capitalizing on the state’s rich agricultural landscape to drive sustainable growth and development.
Responding, Governor Mallam Umar Namadi expressed happiness with the British High Commissioner and his delegation to Jigawa State.
He lauded the fruitful relationship that Jigawa State has enjoyed with British agencies, highlighting the significant impact of their interventions on various fronts.
The Governor, on behalf of the government and people of Jigawa State expressed the desire for continued support to further enhance the state’s progress.
Governor Namadi also affirmed the alignment of the British government’s interventions with the 12-point blueprint of the Jigawa State government emphasizing that the alignment would amplify the positive outcomes of both local and international efforts to ultimately benefit the people of the state.
The visit of the British High Commissioner to Jigawa State, the governor observed signifies a reaffirmation of the strong partnership and collaborative spirit between the United Kingdom and Jigawa State.
