The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has lamented the attitude of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, North West Nigeria towards political opponents in the state and called for a change of attitude ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The Sultan noted that as the country prepares for next year’s polls, all politicians in the country must refrain from propagating hate speeches that would tear  the country apart rather than uniting it.

Making his views known at this year’s Annual Pre-Ramadan lectures organised by the Jama’atul Nasirul Islam (JNI) in Kaduna, the Sultan lamented that the governor’s aggressive attitude towards his perceived opponents is becoming bothersome and unexpected of a political father-figure of the State.

He stressed the urgent need for politicians in the country and Kaduna in particular to shun hate speeches and close ranks to give the state its position in the scheme of things and survival of the northern region.

He called for restraint on the use of social media among the people as politicians would do everything to promote religious, tribal, ethnic sentiments aimed at causing discord and promoting hatred in the polity.

Recalled that Governor el-Rufai, had rained curses and called the three Senators representing Kaduna State bastards with no origins, for failing to support the state’s $350 million dollars World Bank loan request at the National Assembly.

The Secretary-General of JNI, Khalid Abubakar, urged Muslim faithful to live lives in accordance with the teachings of Prophet Mohammed, SAW’s during the Ramadan.

He advised that anyone conducting tafsir (preaching sessions) in the Mosques and other religious grounds should abide by the guidelines as put together by JNI.

The Secretary General explained that all preachers must also be vigilant about the movement of Shiites to Abuja and its environs, saying that the members no longer use their black attire but disguise into the community.

“The rise in bomb blasts in recent time is a wake-up call to the Ummah and the need for adequate vigilance cannot be overemphasized,” he said.

He maintained that it has become imperative for all tafsir centres to be well-equipped with security gadgets and personnel to control the movement and activities of people during the daily preaching sessions.
