By Auwal Umar : Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State,Northeast of the country has stressed the need for the citizens to see security as a collective responsibilities of all to compliment government efforts.
Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo was speaking at the first Annual Conference on Peace Building, Security, Sustainable Development and the Reconstruction of North East organized by Nigeria Political Science Association in Gombe on Thursday.
He stated that the State government was accommodating those who fled for safety from the insecurity bedeviling some communities in order to have peace in the state.
According to the Governor, security is the responsibility of everyone been e the need for people to contribute positively toward that direction.
“I therefore call on this conference to deliberate exhaustively on how to overcome security challenges and build sustainable, security and development in the sub-region”, he said.
Also speaking Senator Mohammad Danjuma Goje the Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation said that President Buhari administration had recorded remarkable achievement in the fight against insurgency in the North East.
Goje who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Kabiru Kukandaka, assured that, lawmakers would continue to support government in its drive towards addressing the challenges facing not only the north east but Nigeria as whole.
“Very remarkable achievements have been recorded in addressing security challenges in the North East, we are bent on doing our best until the problem is finally come to an end”, he said.
“As a viable measure to respond to post conflict situation in the region, the National Assembly had initiated and passed the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the President had already assented to the bill.
“This measure is one of the most important government efforts toward reconstructing, rehabilitating and peace building in the area”, he said.
Prof. Alhassan Gani, Vice Chancellor Federal University Kashere observed that, theme of the conference is apt considering the security challenges in the country and the world at large.
He said peace and peaceful coexistence are the basic platforms for any development.
“I am confident that the political scientist gathered here shall
proffer solutions to the political and social angles to the existing restiveness not only in the North East but in the whole country”, he said.
The Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shuhu; Sen. Muhammad Danjuma Goje and Alhaji Usman Dirkuwa, Deputy Governor of Borno State were presented with an Award of Excellent by the association.
