Kaduna (Nigeria) – Executive and Private bills sponsored and passed by the Kaduna state Assembly since it’s assumption led to developmental growth in the state, Chairman House Committee on Information, Nuhu Goro has  said.

He said Over 58 bills have been passed by the Assembly, comprising both executive and private member bills that have to do with the creation of MDA’s, Commissions, issues of appropriation for both states and local governments, supplementary budgets and revenue generation, among others.

Nuhu Goroh who was speaking with news men in Kaduna ,Northwest Nigeria said bills  sponsored such as  Kaduna State Road Regulatory Agency, KADRA have given room for construction of feeder and access roads, culverts and bridges which are beneficial to the communities, apart from creating jobs for the common man.

He added that the Establishment of Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency, KASTLEA was another beneficial bill because it has given employment to almost two thousand citizens of the State as well as ensure sanity on the roads  by restoring the lost glory of people obeying traffic laws.

“Tax and Codification bill has also brought a turn around in the financial status of the State as we now get the sum of two billion as internally generated revenue monthly. These bills have really impacted on the people of Kaduna State positively.

“There is also a  private member bill which was passed in to Law whose purpose is to create more awareness that cultural antiquities do exist in the State but most of them have been carted away with or without authority because there has been no direct agency or body saddled with the responsibility to look after them. But with the creation of an agency that will cater for the cultural monuments, it will give room for the promotions of cultures and preservation of cultural antiquities in the state, as well as create tourism centres thereby generating more revenue for the state.

Information Committee Chairman said the House will go on oversight functions to check various projects allocated to various communities in comparative to the provisions of the law.

“Even though all necessary materials or framework must be put in place before any bill comes in to implementation except on financial constraints which has affected a lot of projects, committees such as works, housing and transport, Commerce and tourism, Local government and chieftaincy affairs among others have gone on oversight to checkmate ongoing projects in various MDA’s, he said.

Goroh describes the journey of the Assembly since their assumption in office, as a journey of total commitment, service to humanity, challenging and overwhelmingly.

He pointed out that the working relationship between the executives and the legislators have been very great in the sense that the assembly does its  work independently but where there is a cross border it  meets with executive to support one another so that dividends of democracy are achieved in the state.

The lawmaker called on the people of the State to avoid listening to people who do not visit their constituencies to see the ongoing  projects, but criticise the government though criticism is good,

“I urge you all, when you criticise the works of a government, proffer solution, it means you are doing it in good spirit, likewise if a government does the right thing, it should be appreciated so that it feels encouraged to go more miles in doing the right thing.” I urge you all to live harmoniously with one another so that development will be achieved in the State”.
