Nigeria: Borno Records 28 Severe Cases Of VVF

Maiduguri (Nigeria) – The Borno Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, North-east Nigeria on Sunday said it has so far recorded 28 severe cases of Vesico Vaginal Fistula, (VVF) this year.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Laraba Bello, made this known while receiving relief materials donated by the Nigeria Airforce Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) in Maiduguri.

According to her, most of the patients are members of vulnerable groups who had no one to cater for them; adding that some of them were at the hospital since 2015 while some are Internally Displaced persons abandoned by their husbands.

She however noted that, “The donation is timely as it will go a long way in alleviating the plight of our patients, most of who are between the ages 17 and 20 years.

In her remarks, wife of the Chief of Air Staff and the Association’s chairperson, Sadiq Abubakar, said the visit was part of efforts aimed at assisting the less privileged; noting also that it is in line with NAFOWA’s anniversary plan to reach out to people who are in dire need of assistance in the society.

She said, “We decided to come to Borno and give our support to these people because they are the most affected by the insurgency.”

According to her, the association will soon begin its scholarship programme to support orphans and other vulnerable groups in the North East.
