0

….as experts pinpoint early identification and awareness as panacea:

The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Kaduna Friday joined the world in creating awareness for autism technically termed Autism Spectrum Disorder, a mental and developmental disorder in children.

Speaking at the event, the Medical Director of the Hospital Professor Abdulkareem Jika Yusuf who was represented by the Head of Clinical Services Dr. David Ewoada said funding of mental Health challenges has always been a problem, because most people who had mental health challenges cannot fund the medications, in most cases friends and well wishers would have to come in.

“We are pleading with Government to assist in making funds available for effective management of autism in Nigeria even though as professionals we can do the non-biological which is mostly without drugs’’

On solution , Dr. Folorunsho Nuhu consultant, Child and Adolescent Psychiatric heading Child and Adolescent Unit  of the Hospital maintained that, ‘’ although the event today is low key, but we just feel we have to start and now that we have started we will build on the successes. I think this is the first of its kind in the Northern Part of Nigeria, this will create awareness for the parents teachers and students, a lot of people do not know that it even exist, I call on parent who have children that exhibits such strange altitude of not socializing, difficulty in talking and so many others to come to the Hospital for proper counseling as going to prayer houses and traditional herbal medicines won’t work for autism”

Meanwhile. Dr.MD Lasisi called on parent especially mothers to be observant so as to pickup strange behaviors of their children stressing that inquiries can be made in the Hospital which is free.” For us here in the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital inquiries are free ,you won’t have to buy card for coming to ask questions, parents must work along to achieve results for autism” Lasisi added.

Earlier in a lecture on Effective Management on Autism, Dr. Asabe Omokaro said, ‘’for drug management you can see instant results, those mal-adaptive behaviors like biting themselves, swinging their hands and running up and down can be manage pharmacologically and we have seen good result. The other aspect is a challenge because it is multi tasking educationists, psychologists, speech and language therapist and nutritionist for good referral system.’’

Also speaking on behalf of the sponsor of the event, Pharmacist Augustine Baje, Regional Manager of Pharmatex Nigerian Limited. the sole agent to Hovid products said their products are known for innovation, quality and are standing tall in the market delivering health care to the people. We have it as our future plan to expand our strategies so as to create more awareness for autism, this is deliberate so that parents and the society as a whole get the desired awareness and since it’s a multi-discipline approach we will continue to partner with institutions like this to drive the awareness process.’’

Following the just concluded 2021 Easter special patrol which lasted from 31 March, 2021 to 7 April, 2021, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stated that it recorded a total of 103 road traffic crashes (RTC) as against a total of 200 in the same period in 2019 representing 14% decrease.

“The Corps covered 1575 routes, impounded 3205 vehicles, and apprehended 5630 offenders for committing 6880 offences. It also arraigned 87 offenders in mobile court, convicted 79 with option of fines and sentenced 1 to prison, during the 2021 Easter celebration.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, disclosed that the decrease recorded in RTC is largely attributed to the establishment of Station Offices in almost all the 774 Local Govenments in Nigeria; intensified public enlightenment and sensitization campaigns held nationwide in collaboration with key stakeholders in the transportation sector and beyond; and effective patrol operations, when compared to the same period of Easter celebration in 2019.

According to him, the effect of the massive sensitization, enhanced visibility and general enforcement deployed in collaboration with stakeholders is evidenced in the recorded decrease in total number of road traffic crashes and offences recorded in 2021. It also implies that drivers have stepped up compliance with established traffic regulations, he said

Comparing the two years, Kazeem said that in the same period in 2019, the Corps arrested a total of 6961 offenders in 2019 as against 5630 in 2021 representing 19.12% decrease, and a total of 7708 offences as against 6880 in 2021 representing 10.74% decrease. In the same vein, within the period under consideration, a total of 162 offenders were arraigned in mobile court in 2019 while a total of 87 offenders were arraigned in 2021 representing another decrease of 46.30%.

Given the breakdown of the recorded decrease in RTCs during the general operation, the spokesperson noted that out of the 103 RTCs in 2019, FRSC recorded 37 fatal crashes as against 26 in 2021, representing 30% decrease in fatal crashes alone. While adding that a record of 64 serious crashes occurred in 2019, against 69 in 2021 representing a decrease of 7% in serious crashes alone; as well as recorded a total of 14 minor crashes in 2019 against 13 in the same period in 2021 representing 7% decrease in minor crashes recorded within the period.

He added that of the 578 persons involved in road traffic crashes during the 2021 Easter celebration period, compared to 1128 people in 2019, 33 were killed compared to 80 killed in 2019.

On vehicles involved in RTC, Kazeem said that a total of 175 vehicles were involved compared to 218 in 2019.
He gave the breakdown of the vehicles involved in road traffic crashes across the nation as follows: 15 Tanker/Trailers, 17 Trucks, 28 Buses, 57 Cars, 45 motorcycles, 6 Tricycles, and 7 pickups.

Quoting the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, Kazeem stated that the Corps now has a wider coverage due to the establishment of more FRSC Commands, Outposts, road side clinics and Zebra points who now feed in reports from different routes that were hitherto not thoroughly covered. He stressed that the decrease in number of road crashes, the number of persons involved, as well as recorded decrease in the number of persons killed is due to enhanced visibility and the establishment of Station Offices across almost all the Local Governments of the Federation, massive public sensitization, and effective patrol operations during the period across all FRSC formations.

It will be recalled that the Corps Marshal had earlier directed that the 2021 Easter special patrol to cover 45 corridors which include but not limited to Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Kebbi; Mokwa-Birnin Yero-Zaria; Maiduguri-Biu-Numan-Jalingo-Wukari; Akwanga-Lafiya-Makurdi; Jos-Bauchi-Gombe; Katsina-Kano-Wudil-Dutse-Azare-Potiskum, Kaduna-Saminaka-Jos, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, Okene-Ogori-Isua-Owo; Makurdi-Otukpo-Obollo Afor-9th Mile; Asaba-Abraka-Ughelli-Warri corridor; Ibadan-Ogere-Sagamu; Sagamu-Mowe-Lagos; Abuja-Lokoja-Okene; Lokoja-Auchi-Benin; Onitsha-Njaba-Owerri-Umuahia, Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomosho; and Ibadan-Ogere-Shagamu.

The public is therefore called to assist the Corps by reporting any form of obstruction or emergency on the road to the spokesperson through the FRSC Toll Free numbers 122 or tune into the National Traffic Radio 107.1FM to report same or any other contravention seen on the road.

The Station can also be reached through its Social Media Handles as follows; WHATSAPP 08052997848, FACEBOOK TRAFFICRADIO 1, TWITTER @TRAFFICRADIO 1, INSTAGRAM TRAFFICRADIO 1. Senata Shehu Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the 8th Assembly, Shehu Sani has enjoined global Peace Ambassadors to always remain bold to speak the truth to leaders for equity, justice and fairness to prevail in the society.

Senator Shehu Sani was speaking on Wednesday at the World Peace Summit Awards in Kaduna organised by the World Organisations of Ambassadors in collaboration with Hand Up Development Association.

The politician cum Human Right Activist who chaired the occasion and among the awardees told other recipients of the prestigious global award of peace to prove that they deserve the gesture by being courageous.

“Don’t be afraid to speak truth to power,
Power is like a balloon and the truth is like a pin, let’s continue to pray for our country and hope that our travails and crisis turn to a phase in our lives and not be the fate of our life “

No leader in public office, he said, deserve any commendation when people are being Kidnapped .

On restructuring of the country, Senator Sani  told Nigerians not to allow themselves to be decieved as the much talked exercise might not see the light of day because the present adminstration is not interested.

“Restructuring has been one issue that has been severally propagated, but do not deceive yourself, people who are in authority today are not interested in restructuring, because they have the control of the House of Representatives, control of the Senate, control of the States; if they want to restructure, it can be done within two weeks, but their interest is not there.

” lt is time for us as a country to do the needful and to understand that there’s a structure defect in our country, so we need to do what is right”, he argued.

He lamented the bane of honest leaders. men of honour and leaders of integrity in the country owing to the several challenges bedevilling us as a people, saying ” I think at a time like this, it’s not just time to pray for our country, but to hold leaders in the position of power accountable .

” I the north like any other part of the country, we have a tradition of remaining silent and be suffering when one of our own is in power and that has been one of our greatest problems adding that, it behoves on us all, ” to remind whoever is in power of his duties as a leader” irrespective of his religion or where he comes from”, he said.

He regretted that if what his efforts and his likes at the National Assembly to keep the leadership on their toes were taken seriously ” if what needs to be done at that time had been done, we couldn’t have been where we are today,” instead he said they ” considered us enemies of the President,or government or enemies of the country ” he added

He also cautioned those clamouring for seccession saying we are better together as a united country and that those who want to divide this country, by carving out their country, will not succeed.

Earlier, the African representative of the World Organization of Ambassadors, Argentina,  Dr.David Morondiya Aiye, said the event ” it’s a peace summit to select peace engineers in the various localities  to do what we are supposed to do in their various communities. “We understand our society lack  peace and without peace there’s no way anything can thrive

“We need voices, people that matter that will go to places that matter and say what need to be said, my call for the awardees today is for them to be proactive and live by example and start doing the work we expected of them”

He disclosed that over 250 peace ambassadors have been awarded by the organization in Nigeria, and that from  Kaduna they will be hosting the International peace summit in Abuja on 30th September in commemoration of Nigeria’s October, 1st Independence celebration among other things

APC Should Emulate PDP In Fulfilling Social Contract To Nigerians — Wike

0

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) have continued to demonstrate that governance is about solving socioeconomic problems and improving lives of the people.

This, he said, has distinguished PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its failings because of their lack of capacity in serving Nigerians and fulfilling the party’s social contract with Nigerians.

Governor Wike made the assertion while inaugurating the 2.5 kilometers Isaac Shaahu Road in Gboko Town, on Thursday that was constructed by Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom.

The Rivers State Governor stated that he had repeatedly told all political parties to acknowledge the social contract their elected officers have with the people and ensure that they dutifully fulfill them like it is been done in PDP controlled States.

Governor Wike expressed the delight of PDP with the performance of Governor Ortom who is not been deterred in providing dividends of democracy to his people, and also naming the three road projects after prominent sons of Benue State to immortalise them.

“About two months ago, you invited me to come and commission road projects. Like I have said before, we are very happy with what you’ve been able to do for the people of Benue State.

“I am very sure that you’re fulfilling the social contract you have with the people. I have told all political parties to fulfill their social contract.

“PDP as a party, we are fulfilling the social contract we have with the people of Nigeria. Other parties should do the same, by providing dividends of democracy.”

Commissioning the 1.6 kilometers Aper Aku Road in Gboko Town, Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, harped on the need for leaders to continue to build bridges of friendship, and promote coexistence among the citizenry.

“You can see what Governor Ortom has done. It is great honour for me and people of Sokoto to do this commissioning. I commend you, Governor Ortom for this and for other good works you’re doing for Benue people.

“We pray almighty God to continue to guide our leaders and our country. We must continue to build bridges of democracy.

The third road project, the 1 kilometer Prof. Martin Dent Road, was inaugurated by the Governor of Nassarawa State, Engr. Abdullah Sule, and it was performed by his commissioner of works.

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, who led the governors to the three road projects, also inaugurated the ultramodern Tor Tiv Palace, that he constructed saying the projects are part of effort of his administration to enhance the quality of life of the people.

At the venue of the inauguration of the Ultramodern Tor Tiv Palace, Governor Wike was conferred with the chieftaincy title of the Eagle of Tiv Nation, and his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike was conferred with the Nest of the Eagle of Tiv Nation chieftaincy title.

On the entourage of Governor Wike were Senator George Thompson Sekibo, Senator Barinada Mpegi, Senator Lee Mieba, Senator Olaka Nwogu, Senator Mao Ohuabunwo, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Bro. Felix Obuah and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

Nigerian Army (NA) troops operating in Benue State came under attack while on routine operational task.

The troops comprising one officer and ten soldiers were initially declared missing which prompted the deployment of a joint search and rescue team comprising NA troops and personnel of Operation Whirl Stroke.

The search and rescue team unfortunately found all the missing troops dead in Konshisha LGA of Benue State. While the bodies of the slain troops were evacuated immediately, efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators of this heinous crime with a view to bringing them to Justice.

The NA under the leadership of the COAS Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru remains resolute in ensuring stability in Benue State as well as other parts of the country that are affected by the activities of criminal gangs. The NA remains determined to ensure that this unprovoked attack does not disrupt the general peace being enjoyed by the local inhabitants.

The COAS has therefore directed commanders on the ground to ensure sustained efforts in order to fish out and deal decisively with these bad elements who are threatening the peace in the area.

It may be recalled that Benue State which was a hot bed for violent clashes has been enjoying relative peace following the successes achieved by the various security agencies who have been working tirelessly to safeguard law abiding citizens and ensure they go about their legitimate business without fear of harassment by criminals.

The NA appeal to the public to volunteer useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of this dastardly act.

You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to the general public through your medium. Thank you for your usual cooperation
