INTRODUCTION

I know you people in the corridors of power don’t bother about reading or hearing from we lesser mortals. You love listening to yourselves, to fawners, bootleggers, bootlickers, contractors, influence-peddlers and genuflectors. I am not one. Fortunately. But, give me some minutes and read this this my humble open letter to you. This is because aside being a patriot, pan-Nigerian, Constitutional Lawyer, Human Rights Activist and Pro- democracy campaigner, I am also an avid and voracious reader, writer, Essayist, archivist and historian. Aside law books, I also write long essays, poems, articles and books on sundry matters, such as national discourse, literature, history, native laws, customs and traditions. I presently write 6 columns for 6 different newspapers EVERY WEEK, some since 2014. NON- STOP! The Sun, Sunday Telegraph, The Boss, Thisday, ThisNigeria and Afenmai News. These are aside my numerous weekly columns (at times daily) interventions on sundry national and international issues.

EXTRAPOLATION WITH LITERARY CHARACTERS

I once read Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka’s “JERO’S METAMORPHOSIS”, a play staged in 1960 (I was barely 2 years old then), and published in 1963. I also read Soyinka’s “THE TRIALS OF BROTHERS JERO”. In the former play, Jero was in possession of a confidential file which revealed government’s plans to transform the beach into a public prosecution ground and tourists’ centre. The satirical play was about the willy ways Jero tried to unite all the church leaders operating at the beach and make them form one church, with him as the sole leader. Soyinka was satirically decrying the hypocritical way Nigerians practised the Christian religion. He was shocked at the obsequious and unquestioning devotion that converts and adherents displayed towards their manipulative spiritual leaders. In “THE TRIALS OF BROTHER JERO” first published in 1964, Soyinka mocked the proselytizing Church preachers who did not even have churches (as did brother Jero), and so preached in public places. He highlighted the transformation of these leaders from their religious titles of Bishop, Pastor and Prophet, to military titles, such as General, Colonel, Sergeant, etc. Soyinka depicted church leaders as deceptive, corrupt, fraudulent, politically ambitious and abandoning their flock in pursuit of merchantilistic and mundane cravings. Thus, Like Karl Marx, Soyinka satirized on these crafty preachers who deceived their sumnabulistic followers. The play exposed the contradictions in blind faith and slavish following, and satired the too many social and political imbalances in Nigeria of the 60s. The ills Soyinka kicked against in the early 60s are even worse today. Have u not seen viral videos where so called Pastors urinated in the mouths of their hypnotised worshippers, or farted on their faces, or sat on their heads, with other members clapping and washing his legs on their heads? They are told that is the only way to get rich or see paradise. Remember Jonestown where 909 people were made to commit mass suicide on the orders of their Pastor, Jones? Religion had been termed opium of the people by Karl Marx, used as an instrument to fight wars as beast in Europe, instead of using it to give solace to the soul of man. Soyinka had theorised along that line.

MY FRIENDSHIP WITH MALLAM EL-RUFAI

Welcome, Mallam El-Rufai, the cerebral Quantity Surveyor Governor of Kaduna, who, once upon a time, was a jolly good fellow. I consider you my dear friend. I don’t know if you still do, me, based on our different world views and obvious glaring deological differences. You may not remember. We first met in 2002, at Sheraton hotel, Lagos. We had both come to deliver papers in our respective areas of expertise at a workshop. We again met in 2005, at the residence of Mr Brain Brown, the then American Consul-General. Then later as Minister of FCT in 2005. As Minister of the FCT, you were uncompromising against corruption and defacement of the Abuja master plan. Not ready to play ball with the legislative arm on financial gratifications from your Ministry, you were promptly declared a persona non gratia by the NASS, and banned from holding public office for 10 years. You immediately consulted me through my good friend, now Senator Uba Sani. We later met at your Life Camp home. On your instructions, I headed for the Federal High Court, Abuja, to challenge your ban. I won the case. The NASS appealed. I also defeated the NASS at the Court of Appeal, Abuja. That was how you, Nasir, bounced back to public reckoning from the limbo, to have been able to contest and win election as Kaduna State Governor, first, in 2015; and then, in 2019. I don’t know if your present beyond-the-clouds office will allow you remember this piece of history. But, the cold, hard records are there.

EL-RUFAI’S METAMORPHOSIS

Now, El-Rufai, you, have since metamorphosed, like brother Jero. You now see yourself as a tin god, a powerful deity, to be worshipped and perennially appeased by human sacrifices in terms of toying with citizens’ welfare.

El-Rufai, you had sacked over 45000 workers. You did not care about their families and dependants in these horrific harsh economic times unleashed on Nigerians by your clueless and anti-people APC Government. The workers kicked, as they are entitled to do in any democracy; even under totalitarian military juntas. You flexed your tiny mosquito muscles and played Louis X1V of France (of the ‘L’ etat ce’st moi’ – I am the State’- fame). Ayuba Wabba, NLC President, gathered his Kaduna flock workers, like a hen, her chicks, and called out a Kaduna State strike. You, El-Rufai, will hear none of it. Your authority had been challenged by lesser mortals. How dare they? Their temerity and audacity!

To you, a civil strike amounts to economic sabotage, and Ayuba Wabba must be apprehended and tossed into jail like a common criminal. You even placed a handsome reward, an expensive ransom, on Waba’s head. Thank God, it was not a fatwa. You are a Governor who has so far refused to pay ransom to free your own innocent University Students kidnapped from their University, right under your nose in Kaduna. Five of them have since been gruesomely butchered. You were not touched. The rest of the hostages live in daily terror; fear of death, and fear of fear. Their parents are tired of crying. Their oceans of tears have since dried up in daily supplication to god El-Rufai, to help save their innocent children. You, El-Rufai, will not budge. Like the Pharaoh of Egypt, you will not let your people go! (Exodus 5:1-10; 5:6-23; 7:13; 16; 8:15,19).

Now, the Kaduna workers carried out their threat. They downed tools. Swagging Emperor Nero El-Rufai will take none of the ‘nonsense’. Pronto, you fired all Nurses from level 14 downward, for daring to participate in the collective strike. Nigerians, can you believe that? I cannot, myself!

The workers nonetheless took to the streets in a peaceful protest, waving banners. Yes, as done by innocent Nigerians who had waved Nigerian flags and banners in a peaceful protest and were horrendously mauled down at the Lekki toll gate in October, 2020.

What did your (El-Rufai’s) Government do next? It panicked, instigated violence, employed a horde of weed-smoking, cudgel-carrying, machetes- brandishing and stones-hauling street thugs and urchins to unleash violence and mayhem on these peaceful protesters. The security agents were there, watching, probably enjoying themselves. They ‘siddon look’. Never mind that Ayuba Wabba, NLC President, had pro-actively sent SOS to the Director, DSS, Abuja, Director, DSS, Kaduna branch and the DIG of Police, Kaduna State. That is Nigeria’s sorry State. Complete nadir. No help from anywhere!

MY FREE ADVISE TO YOU, EL-RUFAI

My free advice to you, Mallam swashbuckling deity, El-Rufai. You should drop these issues immediately. You must not dare arrest the NLS Chairman, or actualise the dismissal of the said Nurses. You have since changed from the sweet humble guy I used to know, and gradually, not suddenly, become dictatorial and despotic. You are reminding us of Hitler and Musolini. I am genuinely shocked as to how such a well read, exposed and travelled man like you, who once self-exiled himself from Nigeria, for fear for his life, has metamorphosed into a full-blown tyrant and intolerant absolutist god that must be worshipped. Because of the intoxicating effect of power on you, as an aphrodisiac. Why have you developed an insatiable bacchanalian appetite to inflict sufferings and misery on Nigerians, especially your own citizens that you govern?

YOU ARE DESECRATING CITIZENS’ INALIENABLE RIGHTS

Let me tell you this. The rights to life, dignity of the human person, personal liberty, fair hearing, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association and freedom of movement, etc, are basic fundamental and inalienable human rights guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution. They are respectively contained in sections 32, 33, 34,35,38,39 and 40 of the1999 Constitution of Nigeria. At least, your tyrannical APC Government has not yet abrogated this Constitution. These rights are also universally recognised under the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, the European Charter on Human Rights, the American Convention on Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and other international instruments. The right to protest without even seeking Police permission has been serially upheld by Nigerian appellate courts. See the cases of IGP V ANPP (2007) AHELR 179 (CA); (2007) 18 NWLR (PT 1066) 457, at pages 49I- 499, per Adekeye, JCA (as she then was?; AG FEDERATION V ABUBAKAR (2007) 10 NWLR (PT 1041) 1,92-93; OSADEBEY V AG,BENDEL STATE (1991) SCNJ 102, 218.

WABBA’S HEAD: RANSOM, RANSOM, RANSOM!!!

Mallam, I read to my chagrin, that you have allegedly offered to pay handsome ransom for the arrest of Ayuba, the NLC Chairman. Let me advise you to perish that obnoxious idea. You should rather use the ransom for the release of the helpless and unfortunate Boko Haram- kidnapped students of your state. If you yield to my advice, you would not be doing anything new at all. After all, you once told shocked Nigerians how you had to pay humongous ransom to the rampaging Fulani armed bandits that ceaselessly poured into your state from neighbouring African countries in 2015, to enable the 2015 presidential elections hold. I have therefore been incredulous and nonplussed as to your sudden pretended Janus votle-face “haram” or revulsion against payment of ransom, even to free the endangered souls of vulnerable school children who were kidnapped under your very despotic Government. Out of these, 5 students have already been brutally killed in cold blood. Can you really sleep, or fold your legs on the mat, to pray to Allah? What will you be praying for? Will your prayers and supplications cross the ceiling? I can no longer understand these elites in Government, and how they suddenly change once they taste the intoxicating liquor of power. Or, can you, Nigerians?

HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?

Mallam, how would you want to be remembered in history? As a tyrant, autocrat, despot, absolutist, oppressor, totalitarian, autarchy, dictator? As a slave driver, persecutor, bully, scourge? Just how? El-Rufai, why are you playing brother Jero? Why are you acting out Idi Amin, Emperor Bokassa, Adolf Hitler, Timur, Queen Mary 1, Vladi-mir Lenin, Augusto, Pinochet, Kim Jong II, Emperor Hirohito, Leonid Brezhnev, Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot? Why have you shredded your beautiful garments of innocence and empathy and dorned the dictatorial apparels of Saddam Hussein, Ivan The Terrible, Kim 11 Sung, Ayatollah Khomeini, Nero, Ghenghis Khan, Mao Zedong, Ivan 1V, Lepold 11 of Belgium and Attila The Hun? Why Nasir? Why, El-Rufai? Why, Ahmad? Just why, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, for God’s sake?

Kaduna Warning Strike; Zimbabwe Trade Unions Send Solidarity Message To NLC

0

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions has condemned in strong terms peaceful protest by Nigerian workers that was later turned into violence allegedly hatched by the Kaduna State government.

In a solitary message signed by the Secretary General of ZCTU, Japhet Moyo and made available to AFRICA PRIME NEWS, said the Congress was made to understand that the street protest by workers had been very peaceful until when bus loads of thugs and hooligans poured into the streets, brandished all manner of weapons and surged towards the protesters.

ZCTU which sees the protest as a reaction to what it called “the reign of industrial tranny and impunity by the State Governor”, said it is firmly in solidarity and in support of the protests
by Nigerian workers..

The Congress therefore called on those in authority to stop harassing Nigerian Workers and their leadership.

Here Under Is The Full Text Of The Message .

Dear Colleagues

RE: VIOLENCE AGAINST INNOCENT PROTESTING NIGERIAN WORKERS

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) strongly condemns the violence perpetrated on Nigerian workers protesting peacefully over the reign of industrial tyranny and impunity by the Kaduna State Governor.

On Tuesday, 18th May 2021 Nigerian workers met street violence ostensibly at the instigation of the Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Nasir El-Rufai

Nigerian workers in Kaduna State had embarked on industrial actions in Kaduna State from midnight of Sunday, 16th May 2021.

This was in protest against yet another round of mass sacking and redundancy of workers by the government of Kaduna State under Mr. Nasir El-Rufai.

The ZCTU understand that the street protest by workers had been very peaceful until when bus loads of thugs and hooligans poured into the streets brandished all manner of weapons and surged towards the protesters who were seated under any available shade and listening to the speeches made by their leaders.
It was only when workers refused to lay duck for a grand slaughter and began to give the invading thugs the chase of their lives that security operatives woke up to their duties and began to make some arrests.

We are firmly in solidarity and in support of the protests by Nigerian workers and call upon those in authority to stop harassing Nigerian Workers and their leadership

South Africa To Close Down 10 Diplomatic Missions Abroad

0
President Cyril Ramaphosa

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) says it has taken the hard but necessary decision to shut down 10 diplomatic missions abroad.

According to the department, this was in response to the country’s fiscal constraints, exacerbated by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressing the media ahead of her department’s budget vote in Parliament, Minister Naledi Pandor said Cabinet made the resolution after a series of consultations that culminated in a decision.

According to the Minister, the missions, which include embassies, high commissions and consulates, are being closed systematically during the 2021/22 financial year.

“This decision is deeply regretted and South Africa expresses its confidence that the excellent diplomatic relations with these countries and regions will continue through the non-resident missions, and the diplomatic missions represented in South Africa,” Pandor said on Thursday.

Pandor announced that the list of missions earmarked for closure include: Minsk, Belarus; Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; The Holy See, The Vatican; Helsinki, Finland; Milan, Italy (consulate); Muscat, Oman; Suva, Fiji; Bucharest, Romania; Lima, Peru and Chicago, United States (consulate).

In addition, she assured South African citizens resident abroad, businesses and tourists that a smooth transfer of civic and immigration services to non-resident missions is underway.

“All affected stakeholders are advised to check with the affected embassies and consulates-general on the exact dates of termination of services,” she said.

Meanwhile, Pandor said further announcements of the transfer of civic and immigration services will be made on the websites of DIRCO, the Department of Home Affairs and the affected missions.

Foreign policy priorities

According to Pandor, even before the global community was confronted with the COVID-19 pandemic, the world had become more volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous.

She said this includes crosscutting and border-blind challenges, global warming, terrorism, pandemics, and cybersecurity.

“The global governance architecture is at a crossroads, as it struggles to manage the multiple challenges afflicting people and the planet, while governing relations between States, as well as those between States and non-State actors.”

Therefore, Pandor said South Africa has to execute its foreign policy “conscious” and “responsive” to dynamic national and international contexts.

“It is in this environment that South Africa promotes and protects its national interest. South Africa’s national interest displays a people-centred, progressive and developmental outlook evidenced in its foreign policy.”

She believes that this could be done by promoting pan-Africanism, South-South solidarity and cooperation, North-South cooperation, and multilateral cooperation. – SAnews.gov.za

Why Nigeria’s Senate Succumb To Loan Request By Mr. President

0
Nigerian Senate in a Session

By Salisu Ibrahim

The history of Ninth National Assembly especially the Nation’s Upper Chamber House of Senate will remain unpleasant to the millions of Nigerians to some extent the way its succumbing in any request of debt brought to they notice by the president.

Both Two Houses of National Assembly leaders adopt “We Hear And We See” attitudes act makes them too compromising as people Representatives as this act have not anchor well for them.

Because they allowing future of the country mortgaging going by number of debt accrue by the PMB’s administration. Within the life span of the present administration from 2015 till date the nation’s National Assembly approved all the loan requested forwarded before them within eyes blinking.

According to the Debt Management office statement on Public Debt Data as at December 31, 2020 issued on Tuesday, 16 March 2021 13:21 on it website said Nigeria’s Total Public Debt as at December 31, 2020 was N32.915 Trillion. While total Public Debt to Gross Domestic Product as at same month was 21.61% which is within Nigeria’s new Limit of 40%.

Last year in April President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to approved request to secure a fresh loan of N850 billion to fund some projects in the 2020 budget from the domestic capital market to ensure adequate funds to finance projects in the budget. Also the National Assembly approved loan request of $1.5billion and €995million for the Buhari administration in this year.

Once again Nigerians were cough unaware with another efforts of PMB’s administration efforts to seek approval to take another $6.1 billion loan or N2.343 trillion from bilateral and multilateral organisations to fund the deficit in the 2021 budget. To be honest with reality taken new loan is uncalled for as the administration despite it has already revealed plans to sell some assets of the federal government to finance the 2021 budget.

Nigeria committing half of its foreign earnings to servicing its current level of indebtedness. Debt servicing had made it impossible to provide basic amenities and infrastructure without resorting to more borrowing. This led the country toward impending to bankruptcy.

No entity can survive while devoting 50% of its revenue to debt servicing. In spite of all this debt, the realities on ground did not show any correlation with previous loaned taken to breach the infrastructural deficit and there is need for the stopping this trend of loan spree by the administration require the national assembly to monitor the executive on prompt utilisation of new loans for the specified purposes.

The question that keep in the mind of millions concerns Nigerians what are the guarantees present administration, and the subsequent administration in the future will have the capacity to repay without making us and our unborn children likely to remind slaves and beggars in our own country by the creditor nations.

Need for the earlier starts looking for credible answers to these burning questions, the better for us all. What really surprising Nigerians is whether our lawmakers understanding the gravity of their actions in mortgage the future of the country more because contemplating an increase in Nigeria’s debt rate now is bad timing and inconsistent with current economic reality.

History will judges legislative arm for too compromising its responsibilities in checkmating this reckless loans spree by the government. History will remember them as those jeopardy Nigerians future. In the other peoples eyes as public servants they have lost self integrity of protecting electorates interest.

Granting approval of this government loans spree request by the chambers clearly demonstrated them as peoples representatives with gross insensitivity to citizens. History will remember them as public servants that renege one of their primary reasons of being in chamber which are supposed to protect but ending in mortgage the future of the country and the well being of the citizens.

However, the current concern who will pay these huge debts? the burden going to leave by the administration are too weighty for the weak economic like of Nigeria. one is surprised too about the speed with which both Chambers approve the request.

Nigeria: Avoid Ethno- Religious Profiling –Gov. Lalong Warns

0

Plateau State Governor and Chairman Northern Governors Forum Simon Bako Lalong has warned that unless Nigerians stand against ethnic, religous and political profiling in running the affairs of the country, the search for peace and unity will remain illusive.

Governor Lalong was speaking at the 2nd Quarter 2021 Meeting of the Nigerian Inter Religious Council (NIREC) in Abuja.

The Governor said Nigeria is a diverse country with people of different backgrounds and choices which should not be used against them in any way.

He said “we have to put humanity above any other consideration because when we judge people by their ethnicity, religion or other leanings, we miss their potentials because profiling influences the marginalisation of people without reason. For instance, we have to treat crime as crime and isolate criminals rather than covering their actions by where they come from or their religion. This further creates disunity and division”.

Lalong said his administration in Plateau State has ensured that people get what they deserve irrespective of their backgrounds. This he said has brought about peace and tolerance which has now restored calm in the State.

He cited the Plateau State Peace Building Agency and the Inter Religious Council as tools that have been deployed to institutionalise peace efforts in the State in order to consolidate on the gains made so far.

Lalong said he will continue his peace building efforts even after leaving office as he plans to enroll for a PhD in Peace and Conflict studies.

Representative of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,  Sultan of Sokoto, CAN President and the Executive Secretaries of the Christian and Muslim Pilgrim Commissions all concured with Governor Lalong on the need to shun all divisions especially by using ethnic and religious differences which are rights that people enjoy from their creator.

Nigeria: Don’t Be Part Of Conspiracy That Niger Delta Is Unsafe— Wike Tells International Oil Coys

0

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has accused international oil companies of being part to a conspiracy theory that the Niger Delta is unsafe in order not to relocate their corporate headquarters to the region.

The governor observed that so long as this kind of negative narrative geared at perpetuating injustice is not addressed, the country’s corporate existence and stability will continue to be threatened.

Governor Wike made these assertions at the official commissioning of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) corporate headquarters sitting on 126,060 square meters in Port Harcourt, the River State capital on Wednesday.

He noted that for several years multinational oil companies and some vested interest groups have been promoting the negative narrative that Niger Delta is not safe to legitimise their sheer refusal to relocate their corporate head office to the region.

“If Rivers state is not safe, why will NLGN be operating in Rivers State and have its headquarters in Rivers State. so those proponents of insecurity, please try to have a second thought. This state is safe. If the state is not safe you cannot construct this edifice.”

The governor said it is morally offensive for oil companies to continue to exploit oil and gas in the Niger Delta and locate their headquarters elsewhere in the country. According to him, the claim that the Niger Delta is unsafe is not tenable.

“Understand that this conspiracy theory against the Niger Delta is a temporary thing. I can assure you, one day everybody will come back to their operating base. Nobody can change it.”

Governor Wike challenged the multinational companies to prove if Lagos and Abuja don’t have security issues as the rest of the country today. He maintained that the idea of flying in oil workers from Lagos to work in the Niger Delta and then fly them back is detrimental to the nation’s economic wellbeing.

The governor commended NLNG for showing the right example by relocating its corporate headquarters to Rivers State which is its operational base and assured the management that the State government will continue to create an enabling environment for the businesses to thrive.

Governor Wike further thanked the company for funding the 38 kilometers Bonny-Bodo road project of which the Federal government was expected to provide counterpart funding. He said it was unfair for the federal executive council to approve over N780 Billion for the Abuja-Kano highway, but refuse to provide counterpart funding of just N60 Billion for the Bonny -Bodo road project.

“There is so much injustice in the country and if you don’t correct it , there will continue to be problems. Injustice brings insecurity whether you like it or not. When a people feel they are not part of the sharing of our national cake, what do you want them to do?”

The managing director of NLNG, Tony Attah said the iconic edifice is intended to convey the company’s bold presence in Port Harcourt and the Niger Delta region.

He expressed delight the company is driving Nigeria’s gas revolution and investing huge resources in human capacity development in its host communities.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, thanked the NLNG for playing a very crucial role in the country’s gas expansion project. According to him, for decades, the NLNG has demonstrated commitment to country’s aspiration to be a leading gas producer in the world.

Former managing director of NLNG, Chima Ibeneche said he initiated the move to relocate the NLNG corporate headquarters from Lagos to Port Harcourt because it was just thing to do.

Kaduna Strike: Alleged Removal Of Oxgen On A Two-day Old Baby Is Malicious, Unfounded, Misleading –NANNM

0
Gov. Nasir El-rufa'i

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Kaduna State Council says the accusation of its
members removing oxygen from a Two-day old baby at the Barau Dikko Hospital during the Warning strike is unfounded and misleading.

.
In a statement to counter the accusation, the Chairman of the Council, Nurse Ishaku Yakubu said investigations carried out by the union revealed how the nurse on duty helped to plead with the generator plant technician to allow the light in the hospital as a patient was on oxygen and to allow for the transfer of the same patient in the morning as the strike was to start midnight of 15th May 2021.

Contrary to the allegations and false statements, the statement emphasised, the nurse went extra miles to ensure the safety of the child and other patients, as it is known of nurses.

According to the statement, the investigations carried out by the association also revealed that the baby is alive and doing well in one of the private facilities in Kaduna town.

It said videos of the interview with the mother of the baby and of the private hospital is available and will be made available to the media.

The association, the statement said, wishes to tell Nigerians that image of the nurse has been battered and that the allegations were aimed at further discrediting and tarnishing the image and reputation of the nurses and the nursing profession.

“This is rather unfortunate and we wish to call on everyone to disregard this malicious and unfounded allegations”, it laments.

Here under is the full text of the statement:–

OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF NANNM KADUNA STATE COUNCIL ON ALLEGED DISCHARGE OF PATIENTS AND REMOVAL OF OXYGEN ON A 2 DAY OLD BABY

In respect to the recent happenings in the state and the threats from the Government, the Association wishes to issue the following statements with particular reference to the accusation of our members of discharging patients from the hospital and removing oxygen from a two-day old baby:

That the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) is an affiliate of NLC, and as such the Kaduna State Council is actively participating in the ongoing strike action as directed by her national body.

That NO member of NANNM in Kaduna state has ever either in the past or present discharged any patient during any union action and even in the present allegation of discharge of patients in Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital (BDTH), the nurses did not discharge any patient. The patients left on their own considering the fact that services were withdrawn.

That the accusation of our members removing oxygen from a Two-day old baby is unfounded and misleading to the public. The investigations carried out by the union have revealed how the nurse on duty helped to plead with the generator plant technician to allow the light in the hospital as a patient was on oxygen and to allow for the transfer of the same patient in the morning as the strike was to start midnight of 15th May 2021. Contrary to the allegations and false statements the nurse went extra miles to ensure the safety of the child and other patients, as it is known of nurses.

The investigations carried out by the association also revealed that the baby is alive and doing well in one of the private facilities in Kaduna town. Videos of the interview with the mother of the baby and of the private hospital is available and will be made available to the media. The union shall take a decisive action against the perpetrators of this malicious and incisive allegations.

The association wish to tell Nigerians that image of the nurse has been battered and these allegations are aimed at further discrediting and tarnishing the image and reputation of the nurses and the nursing profession, this is rather unfortunate and we wish to call on everyone to disregard this malicious and unfounded allegations.

That the mass sack of nurses in Kaduna state from level 14 below is aimed at dividing the nurses and playing the “divide and rule” game. All nurses are part of this action as well as other health professionals, why single out nurses if not an attempt to divide the unity we share. More so, this is to strike fear among nurses to have them resume work knowing fully well that we constitute the majority of the work force in the health sector. This attempt will fail as we are together and not moved by these threats. As far as NANNM is concerned, no nurse has been sacked in Kaduna state as the rules of disengagement has not been followed which is part of the reasons for this industrial action.

We call on the Kaduna state government to conserve the energy they are using now to fight nurses and use same to secure the release of two of our nurses are in the hands of kidnappers for the past 30 days. They were taken at their duty post as government workers and the kidnappers are making huge demand as ransom.

The association want to assure the citizens of the state that we are committed to the provision of health care services to the public and to ensure they get the best but when the work force is unfairly treated then the best cannot be achieved. We solicit for their prayers and understanding during this period, the almighty will help us all.

Com. Nurse Ishaku Yakubu
Chairman, NANNM, Kaduna state council.
