Nigeria: Middle Belt Calls For Justice, Reversal Of El-Rufai’s Divisive Policies

0

By Amos Tauna

The Middle Belt Forum, Kaduna state chapter, has called on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani to reverse what it called “former governor El-Rufai’s Southern Kaduna traditional structures” that undermine their cultural identity and political autonomy.

According to the forum, “The administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai (2015–2023) left a legacy of division and distrust in Kaduna State through reckless restructuring of traditional institutions. These changes, widely perceived as ethnoreligious gerrymandering, targeted Southern Kaduna communities and other minorities, undermining their cultural identity and political autonomy.

“Today, we urge Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to heed the calls of justice-loving Nigerians by reversing these ill-conceived policies, which have deepened fractures in our pluralistic society.”

Under the guise of “inclusivity,” the forum in a statement issued by Daniel Ejembi, the forum’s state Chairman, said that El-Rufai’s government executed a calculated erosion of Southern Kaduna’s traditional structures of 13 chiefdoms and emirates were renamed, stripping them of ethnic identities.

He explained that the Adara Chiefdom was controversially rebranded as “Kajuru Chiefdom”, erasing the Adara people’s historical presence, the traditional title of “Sir Gbagyi” (associated with the Gbagyi people in Chikun LGA) was replaced with “Etsu Chikun”, a strange nomenclature, further alienating indigenous communities.

According to the statement,  “Such renamings occurred across Southern Kaduna, where non-Muslim majority chiefdoms were systematically stripped of their heritage.”

Ejembi stated that Chiefdoms in Christian-majority areas, such as Kauru, were unilaterally upgraded to emirates, with traditional rulers pressured to adopt the title of “Emir” a move seen as Islamization, saying that it violated the cultural and religious sensibilities of communities, despite El-Rufai’s claims that chiefs “applied” for the changes.

The forum also said that the administration unilaterally altered local government boundaries without following constitutional procedures, stressing that “Ladduga District” (Ikulu Chiefdom, Zangon Kataf LGA) was transferred to Kachia LGA to expand grazing reserves, dispossessing indigenous communities of ancestral lands.

He added that Section 8 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution mandates that boundary adjustments must follow a rigorous process with a request by the Local Government Council; followed by an approval by a two-thirds majority of the State House of Assembly,  ratification by the National Assembly and involvement of the National Boundary Commission (NBC).

He said, “El-Rufai’s administration bypassed these steps, acting without federal approval, community consultation, or NBC oversight. These illegal adjustments were not only arbitrary but also unconstitutional.”

The chairman explained that chiefdoms like Koro, Jere, Piriga, and Kurama were forcibly merged under Hausa-Fulani emirates, diluting their autonomy, pointing  out that Chiefs who resisted, such as “Jonathan Zamuna” of Piriga, were deposed, while Zamuna was later reinstated by court order, the damage to intercommunity trust persists.

According to him, “El-Rufai’s leaked video confession, where he openly admitted plans to relegate Christians and deceive them to empower Muslims, confirms what Southern Kaduna communities long suspected. These reforms were not about governance but subjugation. Such brazen ethno-religious engineering has no place in a democracy.”

He called on President Tinubu’s intervention to  reverse “illegal boundary adjustments”, the unconstitutional redrawing of LGA boundaries, which falls under federal jurisdiction, should be revoked and called for investigation to halt the expansion of grazing reserves on unlawfully acquired lands and return disputed territories to indigenous communities.

“We want agriculture to evolve from subsistence to a technology-oriented, commercialised sector, with youth playing a central role,” he said.

Dr Michael Ojo, Country Director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), urged the youth to develop innovative solutions that improved access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food, and help addressed malnutrition.

Lamido To APC: Don’t Disintegrate Nigeria’s Corporate Existence

By Mohammed Suleiman, Dutse

Former Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has expressed fears that Tinubu led APC Administration may end up disintegrating the country’s corporate entity due to what he called its failed mission and harsh economic policies.

Speaking during the PDP State’s Congress and elections of new State Executives of the party, Lamido described APC government as that of deceit, lacking merit and focus to usher in good governance.

“Nigeria is drifting to a tunnel of disintegration with mushroom cabals as implementors of bad policies, and mission of President Tinubu who lacks good mission and objectives of good governance for success and prosperity”

According to Lamido, for us to be out of this catostrophic monopoly, all hands must be on deck in jetting out these so-called mis-led crop of people with failed mission and objectives, people on whose characters are questionable, full of ill- human feelings, for them to usher in good governance.

“As it is now, the country is in search of a dynamic leader. A leader with human compassion, decency, uprightness, and dedication, and the only way to achieve this, is taking a holistic approach in acting and working positively towards that direction.

“I therefore charged all our new elected State’s PDP Exco to eschew selfishness, greed, among other bad characters to uphold honesty, good leadership with exemplary dedication and hard work as the task ahead of you people is enormous in working tirelessly for the success of the PDP in 2027 for us to be able to jet out APC out of government for PDP to enact a purposefusel leadership in meeting the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians”.

Speaking in the same vein, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in 2023 general elections, Dr. Mustapha Sule Lamido viewed with concern, the way and manner things were happening in the country, saying as it is today, the country is passing through a turbulence process.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Mustspha said the massive turn out of PDP members and its delegates to this momentum occasion has signified that people are tired of cruelity of the APC led government. A misled government with abstract knowledge of art of governance on the side of its implementors due to greed, corrupt and self style leadership without bad policy formulations, and implementation.

Dr. Mustapha emphasized that the 2027 elections surely will be people versus bad governance in striving hard for an option of rejecting bad governance to elections of PDP as a party with the hope to usher a purposeful leadership through the elections of credible people with vision and aspirations ready to offer good governance for the betterment of all and sundry.

During the state’s Congress, Dr. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel emerged Chairman, Alh. Umar Danjani Vice Chairman, Kyari Madamuwa PRO along 36 others occupying different positions to form the State’s PDP Executive Officers for the next four years

Pope Leo XIV: A Renewed Hope For The World

0

In a momentous decision that will shape the future of the Catholic Church, the College of Cardinals has elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th pope. Taking the name Pope Leo XIV, he becomes the first American to assume the papacy, marking a transformative milestone for the global Catholic community.

A Humble Servant, A Global Visionary

Born in Chicago in 1955, Pope Leo XIV has long embodied the spirit of humble service. A member of the Order of St. Augustine, he spent decades in Latin America, particularly in Peru, where he ministered to underserved communities with compassion and resolve. Fluent in multiple languages and deeply respected for his pastoral care, he rose through the ranks of the Church not through ambition, but through unwavering dedication to the faithful.

Prior to his election, he led the Vatican’s powerful Dicastery for Bishops, overseeing episcopal appointments and steering the global Church toward reform and transparency. His quiet but firm leadership style earned him a reputation as a bridge-builder, capable of navigating the Church’s complex theological and cultural divides.

A New Era: Leadership Rooted in Reform

Pope Leo XIV’s election signals continuity with the legacy of Pope Francis, yet also heralds renewal. His inaugural words from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica resonated deeply: “Let us be a Church of bridges, not barriers. A Church that listens before it teaches, and walks with those on the margins before preaching to them.”

In choosing the name “Leo,” he evokes the memory of Pope Leo XIII, who led the Church into the modern era at the turn of the 20th century, championing social justice and workers’ rights. Leo XIV, likewise, is expected to prioritize inclusivity, ecological stewardship, and healing within a Church still grappling with crisis and change.

A Global Church Finds New Voice

For the 1.4 billion Catholics across the world, Pope Leo XIV offers a unifying presence at a time of global unrest and moral uncertainty. He inherits a Church that is both challenged and vibrant—growing in the Global South, tested in the West, and increasingly called to be a moral compass in a fractured world.

His American roots, missionary heart, and global experience give him a unique platform to speak not just to Catholics, but to all people of goodwill. As the white smoke cleared and the bells of St. Peter’s rang, a new voice stepped forward—not with fanfare, but with faith.

In Pope Leo XIV, the world sees not just a new pontiff, but a renewed hope.

Nigeria 2027: SDP Strategizes To Wrest Power From APC In Northwest Zone – Group

0

Predicts Mass Movement From APC To SDP

A group under the auspices of Social Democratic Party, SDP Youth Vanguard, Northwest Zone, has vowed to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the zone and even the country at large.

The Zonal Coordinator of the youth group,  Comrade Auwal Sani who gave the assurance at a news conference in Kaduna, Thursday, argued that many people would leave the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) for the SDP sooner than later, saying  “APC is weak, and we will use the weakness to campaign against it”.

Comrade Sani acknowledged that the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai is one of the respectable leaders of SDP, and that the youth wing of the party would ever ready to work with him to take the party to greater height.

“We are together with Nasir El-rufai in the SDP and all those interested in moving the country forward through the party. We have no dealings with all those miscreants who are sponsored  to spoil the name of the leader of the SDP, Mr. Adewole  Adebayo. We are not here to comment on the dos and don’ts of the Kaduna State governor or the State government. What we are saying is that we are going to capitalise on the weakness of the State government and campaign against it and woo many Nigerians and  Kaduna State indigenes to SDP. Our focus is not only on Kaduna State but the entire North West and the country at large.

“The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has undergone a significant transformation, evolving into a welcoming platform for Nigerians from all walks of life. Our doors are open to everyone who shares our vision for a better future, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every member can contribute to the party’s growth and success.

“This transformation is a testament to our commitment to progress and our determination to build a party that truly represents the interests of Nigerians. We appreciate the good leadership quality provided by the party from the states to the National level for their vision and dedication to the growth of the party.

“At this critical moment, unity among stakeholders is paramount. The average Nigerian voter is looking to the SDP as an alternative platform to rescue them from the failures of both the PDP and APC. We must present a united front to capitalise on this opportunity and demonstrate our commitment to providing a better future for Nigerians.

“As a legal and registered umbrella, SDP Youth Vanguard, we will do everything to protect the party and also to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.

“Unfortunately, some youths allegedly recently sponsored used our registered name to undermine the good work of one of the leaders of the party, Prince Adewole Adebayo. We call on them to refrain from that action in future, or we will report them to the relevant authorities for disciplinary action.

“The SDP Youth Vanguard is using this medium to apologise to Prince Adewole Adebayo on behalf of those youths who may be misled to carry out that unfortunate activity.

“The future of Nigeria is bright, and we are proud to be part of it. We will continue to work towards a better tomorrow for all Nigerians, and we are confident that our efforts will yield positive results. We urge all Nigerians to join us in our journey towards a brighter future, and together, we can build a country where peace, unity and prosperity shall prevail.

“We wish to advise all those interested in the party to go to their wards to register properly as enshrined in the SDP constitution”. The Zonal Coordinator stated.

Nigeria’s Information Minister Urges Media to Deny Terrorists, Bandits Publicity

0

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has appealed to media professionals to refrain from granting undue publicity to terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening the peace and security of the country.

Speaking at the seventh edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series held on Wednesday at the National Press Centre, Abuja, the Minister underscored the critical role of the media in shaping public perception and supporting national security efforts.

“The media, as gatekeepers and partners in nation-building, have a crucial role to play in supporting our military’s morale by highlighting their successes and sacrifices,” the Minister stated. “We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave. We must take them off the front pages and accurately report them as the criminals they are, without glorifying their acts or giving credence to their false narratives.”

The Minister emphasized that terrorist and criminal groups often manipulate media coverage and social media platforms to spread fear, propagate disinformation, and recruit followers. In this context, he urged journalists and editors to adopt a responsible and patriotic approach to reportage by avoiding sensational headlines and refusing to serve as inadvertent amplifiers of terror propaganda.

“These are not freedom fighters; they are murderers, kidnappers, and destroyers, and they must be presented as such,” he said.

Highlighting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its pillar on “Strengthening National Security for Peace and Prosperity,” the Minister noted that the Federal Government is actively investing in military capacity through the acquisition of modern equipment, enhanced intelligence, and strategic partnerships.

Idris said the Ministerial Press Briefing Series, a brain child of his ministry, it’s a forum that  presents a vital opportunity for ministers to update Nigerians on the key achievements, ongoing initiatives, and policy directions of their ministries. “Through this interactive platform, which is being broadcast live on national television stations and streamed across social media platforms, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to transparency, accountability, and public engagement,” he stated.

He therefore commended the media for their continued support of the Ministerial Briefing Series and their broader role in promoting public awareness of government initiatives.

The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and his counterpart in the Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas, briefed the media on the successes being recorded in their respective ministries.
