Christianity, Africa And Beyond, By Pastor Isaac Ademoroti

Christianity is 2000 years old. The whole faith began when Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, gave His life as a ransom for mankind’s salvation. It was for the restoration of the relationship between Man and God. You will probably recall that the relationship between God and humans went sour in the Garden of Eden after which Adam and his wife, Eve, were chased out of their garden home. They were told to go and be taking care of themselves by tilling the soil from which they were taken.

Due to the sacrifice of Christ, which was a propitiation for sin, humans who wanted to have a new relationship with God were invited to do so. The Lord Jesus Christ, after His Resurrection, personally ordered His followers to go and tell everyone the Good News. Christianity has never looked back since despite the fierce opposition that tried to prevent its spread.

The impact of the faith then needs to be acknowledged. Christianity, and the light it brought, has largely been credited for being the foundation and the fulcrum on which several developments were built. These included Western Civilisation, the Industrial Revolution and several technological breakthroughs and inventions. Fortunately, the main purpose of Christianity was never forgotten. This was to transform lives starting with the new birth.

Africa was not left out of the new development as one of the earliest Africans to become a Christian was an Ethiopian eunuch. Remember him? He received Christ while he was returning to Ethiopia from a trip to Jerusalem. This was between AD 33 and AD 70. This is found in Acts 8. European missionaries also came to Africa but this was much later. Several of these missionaries arrived in Nigeria a little less than 200 years ago.

Without an iota of a doubt, one can say that the missionaries left a great legacy as they were faithful to their calling. They were generally known for their simplicity. Who can forget their work in several parts of Nigeria and Africa. The work done by Catholic, Anglican and Baptist missionaries stood out. Their hospitals and schools were always the best. Notably, they did what they did for the love of God and humanity.

Along the way came independence from colonial rule for many African countries. However, in Nigeria, the politicians who took over from the colonialists were themselves kicked out of power by soldiers after just five years, with many of them being killed. This was because of mismanagement. Sadly, the military adventurists only worsened the situation. The country is yet to recover from the inexcusable tyranny of the military era. Meanwhile, Christianity was still in a fairly good shape.

However, things took a dangerous turn in the late seventies and early eighties when standards began to plummet rapidly. Among other things, governments had begun to take over institutions, notably mission schools. It was around this time that cults of personalities were building around Church leaders. It was also the beginning of one-man Churches and ministries. The one-man/family ministry was an American model. It was popularised in Nigeria by the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa. Not surprisingly many of the older General Overseers that we have in Nigeria today were his products but these aggressive millionaires, like their mentor, have refused to see simplicity as a virtue. The era of the pastor-preneur was upon us and with it the departure from sound biblical teaching in the Church.

The rot was now setting in, what with the coming of large-scale falsehood and false doctrine in the Churches. In the absence of the rule of law, Satanic religious leaders, false prophets and teachers were being emboldened to practise their dubious art. It was deception galore as most Church goers no longer knew what it actually meant to be a Christian. People were now beginning to take material and financial prosperity as a sign of Christian growth and a sign that God was smiling on them. This period coincided with an increase in serious crimes like kidnapping and ritual killings as more occultic Churches were being established.

On a serious note, with all these things, could one say that the Christian Church has failed? Could one sincerely say that Christianity has brought more problems to Africa? I can say boldly that Jesus never fails. The Lord says in John 16 that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Christian Church. However, there is no doubt that Christian leaders in Africa especially in Nigeria have failed woefully, what with the spiritually comatose CAN and PFN. In Nigeria and most of Africa, the Church is not playing its role as THE PILLAR OF TRUTH. The Church has been so weakened that it cannot check the excesses of directionless federal and state governments.

The resulting situation has been an increase in godlessness, unheard of sins and iniquities as occultic bishops, pastors and prophets hold sway. The Church of Jesus Christ has been turned into a den of robbers and a grand partner in sin with conscienceless government officials. This is despite the fact that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest emancipator known to man. Sadly, it would appear that Christ’s efforts to emancipate Africans spiritually and in every other way are being thwarted by a shameless coalition of pastors, politicians and traditional rulers.

You may ask: what is the way out? My opinion is that Christians in Nigeria and all Africa must begin to defer only to the Holy Bible and shun these corrupt Christian leaders. Serious intercessors must rise up in their millions to pray so that the Lord can reclaim back His Church from these marauders. People should start meeting in homes and serious bible teaching should return. There is no doubt that these would usher us into a mighty revival. Do not forget that a revival is a revolution in itself. It is a spiritual fightback led by the Holy Spirit against the forces of evil. What it lacks is the bloodshed that usually accompanies a political revolution.

However, should people think that it is okay for things to continue the way they are, they should be left severely alone. The chances then are that those who refuse to be guided by the radar of history shall be taught by the rocks.

By Joseph Edegbo

In a bid to ensure free flow of traffic and also trend down road traffic fatalities by 15%, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has directed the deployment of 25,224 Corps’ Operatives (Regular and Special Marshals) to effectively cover 29 critical Corridors during the Easter Special Patrol which is expected to commence from 13 to 20 April 2022 .

Giving the breakdown of the deployment in a statement, the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem said that the personnel include 7,100 Officers, 18,124 Marshals and 15,225 Special Marshals deployed to cover all the identified areas across the country.

He noted that Management staff, Zonal Commanding Officers, Sector Commanders and other senior officers of the rank of Deputy Corps Commanders (DCC) in the National Headquarters as well as Corridor Commanders are also deployed to the Field Commands to ensure compliance with the Operational Guidelines issued at the beginning of the exercise.

Accordingly, a total of 580 patrol vehicles, 92 ambulances, 17 tow trucks and 73 motorbikes are being deployed as part of the patrol logistics. In addition, 2096 reflective jackets , 1,000 traffic crones, 73 tyre pressure gauges, a number of extricating machines and digital breathalyzers are part of the tools set aside for the special operations.

Kazeem also stated that part of the strategies in place, is the activation of 22 Help Areas to ensure prompt removal of obstructions, death and injuries during the period. This is in addition to the ten traffic control camps which would be dedicated solely to identifying traffic gridlock areas to be manned by personnel on 24/7 basis during the Easter Celebration.

In addition, the Corps Marshal also directed Commanding Officers to swing into action by combining the engagement of the motoring public through purposeful and impactful public education programmes, strengthened surveillance activities to regulate unprofessional excesses, sustained effective patrol operations as well as adequate monitoring on the highways.

Further to that, the statement emphasized, all Commanding Officers have equally been directed to step up patrol operations and ensure strict enforcement of critical offences like overloading, driving rickety vehicles, excessive smoke emission, Speed Limit Violations, Overloading Violations, Tyre violations, light signs violations including directional lights headlights, backlight and break light, among others.

The Corps has also put in place a situation Room at the National Headquarters to monitor the activities across the country, collate and process information for dissemination to relevant commands and stakeholders as the case may be. This is in addition to the activation of 28 Road Traffic Crash Clinics and 48 Zebra points located along the major routes which would be covered by 92 ambulances that would be fully utilized to respond promptly to cases of rescue and convey injured victims to hospitals for more professional attention.

The spokesperson quoted the Corps Marshal as saying; “We are very conscious of the fact that FRSC alone cannot shoulder the responsibilities of ensuring safer road environments, I have directed Commanding Officers to liaise with other strategic stakeholders within their operational areas for the needed moral and logistics as well as security support.

I am also convinced and have confidence in the disposition, crop and quality of personnel and logistics that have been deployed to ensure the safety of travelers during the Easter celebration. However, it is also expedient to state without mincing words that the Corps will not be able to achieve desired result that would make trips safer for all if the cooperation of the motoring public is not in place”.

By this fact, Oyeyemi urged the entire community of road users to give the Corps maximum support and cooperation by complying with all safety measures and abiding by all established traffic laws so that incidences of road traffic crashes could be drastically minimized. He further advised that in situations of emergency, the 122 toll free number and the National Traffic Radio live lines: 08052998090, 09067000015, and 08052998012 are viable means to reach FRSC to report Traffic situations anywhere in the country for swift response., the statement concludes.

Unite Nigerians With Shared Hope And Vision -Aruwan Tasks Journalists

By Joseph Edegbo

Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan has enjoined the media to unite the people with a shared hope and vision through their reportage at this critical stage of national development.

By so doing, he said, Nigeria could become a thriving nation that celebrates her diversity.

Mr.Aruwan was speaking on Tuesday in Kaduna at a Seminar and Award ceremony with a theme” Tackling Security Challenges: The Role Of Media,” organised by the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kaduna State Council.

Journalists, he said, must exhibit sincerity, honesty and adhering to facts, devoid of pursuing divisive agendas which are threats to common good.

“As members of this elite group, the media, we must ditch the divisive narratives sold for decades by desperate power mongers. We can no longer buy into denigration and dehumanization. We must not buy into ethno-centric politics and narrow sentiments.

The Commissioner further stressed the need for the practitioners to engage in responsible journalism that is truly concerned with a balanced and truthful account of events.

He also wants Journalists to eschew judgmental representations and describe reality without exaggeration and sensationalism.

In this era, he emphasized, the media can play a crucial role in building peace, through effective peace journalism. “Peace journalists can investigate the causes behind a conflict and the true motives of the participants, while making sure to humanize all victims of the conflict. “Journalists should not exploit loss and suffering through selective condemnations, but make sure that the reporting is balanced. “Peace journalism should be focused on preventing further escalation of conflict”

The Commissioner assured that Government on its part, will continue to collaborate with security agencies, and engage productively with citizens to address security challenges across the state.

Mr Aruwan who commended the conveners for acknowledging his outstanding performance in the management of insecurity and insurgency in the State, with a Meritorious Award, re-echoed the need for journalists to be alive to their responsibility towards peace and security.

Earlier in an address of welcome, the Acting Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Mr. Moses Kolo had urged his colleagues to as much as possible, de-escalate unconfirmed reports especially on attacks and other forms of insurgency.
This, he said, was necessary as such reports would give the perpetrators of the dastardly acts undue prominence and a sense of superiority when they are always or on daily basis, making the headlines.

Mr Kolo noted that the State and indeed Nation, is going through its most difficult phase, but together, “we can win this war. As Journalists and watch dogs of the society, let us cooperate with security agencies to douse the fears of the masses and build confidence in the people” .

On the Awards, Mr. Kolo said the event was to recognize individuals who have made immense contribution to the society.
” These brilliant individuals exhibit such qualities that have not only helped them in achieving their goals, but also bring glory and success to spheres of influence.
“Today, we have gathered here not just to celebrate the achievements of the Awardees, but also to give due regard to our values and morals which the awardees exemplify, like discipline, compassion and zeal for the upliftment of humanity.

Describing the gesture as a way to commend, encourage and also challenge individuals to do more, Mr. Kolo advised the reciepents to see the honors accorded them as a not just a tap on the back to say weldone, but also as a fuel to propel them do more .

Among the Meritorious Awardees were Former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi for Peace Building and Chief Anthony Hassan for Outstanding Performance in Human Capacity Development particularly in Education and Mr Jackson Ukuevo, Managing Director of Ronchess.

Nigerian government has declared Friday, April 15 and Monday, April 18, as public holidays to mark the 2022 Easter celebration.

A statement by Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on the declaration on behalf of the government, felicitated with Christians and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on the year 2022 Easter’s celebration.

He advises Christians to emulate the attributes of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace and patience, which were the attributes and practices of Jesus Christ, as exemplified by His ministry on earth.

Aregbesola, called on “Christians and all Nigerians alike to use the occasion of this year’s Easter Celebration to pray for an end to all security challenges bedevilling every part of the country,” the statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore, says.

He assured Nigerians that the government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the recent attacks by undesirable elements on the highways, airport and the railway are timely brought to an end.

“Security is everybody’s business. I, therefore, urge Nigerians and foreigners resident in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public spiritedness at this critical time in the history of our country, by supporting the efforts of all security agencies in bringing peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry,” he said.

He enjoined Nigerians to join hands with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity for all.

“There will surely be light at the end of the tunnel,” he says.

Nigeria: Resign Now, Northern Elders To President Buhari

Elders from northern Nigeria, under the auspices of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to “resign immediately” over his failure to provide security to citizens of the country.

“The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari does not appear to have answers to the challenges of security to which we are exposed,” a statement by its spokesperson, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, says.

The elders lament that after about seven years of being in office, Buhari still has no answers to the security challenges bedevilling Nigeria.

“We cannot continue to live and die under the dictates of killers, kidnappers, rapists and sundry criminal groups that have deprived us of our rights to live in peace and security.

“Our constitution has provisions for leaders to voluntarily step down if they are challenged by personal reasons or they prove incapable of leading.

“It is now time for President Buhari to seriously consider that option, since his leadership has proved spectacularly incapable of providing security over Nigerians. Our Forum is aware of the weight of this advice, and it is also aware that we cannot continue to live under these conditions until 2023 when President Buhari’s term ends.

“Killers and other criminals appear to have sensed a paralyzing vacuum at the highest levels of leadership, and they grow more confident and acquire more competence in subverting the State and our security.

“Nigerians have shed enough tears and blood without appropriate response from those with responsibilities to protect us,” Baba-Ahmed says.

Kano state government in North Western Nigeria has reiterated commitment towards prioritizing the health of women in order to reduce maternal and child mortality in the state.
According to the State’s Ministry of Health, the state has increased its annual budgetary allocation for Maternal and Child Health Services from N20 million in 2015 to N100 million in 2022.
The Health Commissioner, Dr Aminu Tsanyawa, made this known at a news conference to commemorate the 2022 National Safe Motherhood Day, with the theme: “Access to Quality Maternal Care, a Right for Every Pregnant Woman”.
Tsanyawa added that the state also invested in training of 1,130 female community volunteers to strengthen its commitment to women’s health, while 220 focal persons had community engagements to promote Maternal and Child Health services.
He noted that, with the increased commitment of the state to improving the health sector, it has received high recognition, which translated into awards, such as the Best Performing State in Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response in Nigeria.

Nigeria 2023: Amaechi Is Latest Clowning Presidential Wannabe – By Farooq Kperogi

Rotimi Amaechi

I just got a chance to watch the video of Rotimi Amaechi’s declaration of interest to be Nigeria’s president. It was an unfunny clown show that dramatizes the descent of Nigeria’s presidential politics into the theater of the absurd.

He started his clown show by jogging—along with a bunch of hungry, slavish flunkies—ostensibly to demonstrate his physical fitness. But he ended with a speech that demonstrated his intellectual unfitness.

He gave a dizzyingly vacuous speech (whose title he couldn’t even remember!) that was punctuated by preplanned cheers and songs from a paid crowd of groveling toadies.

This featherbrained, leaky-mouthed buffoon who should have resigned or be fired in the aftermath of the horrendous Kaduna train mishap— the consequences of which are still reverberating as I write this— wants to clown his way to the presidency because there’s not the littlest whit of integrity or accountability left in government in Nigeria.

While the nation was mourning the tragedy of the terrorist attack on the Kaduna-bound train, Amaechi didn’t show any empathy or compassion.

The blabbermouth was only worried that the scam he wanted to perpetrate in the name of providing security for trains was thwarted by his fellow thugs in government.

Several train passengers are still held in captivity by terrorists. Instead of using this moment to be responsible for once in his life, he chose to put together a frenetic, disorganized, comic show that he called a declaration to run for president.

Nigeria is facing enormous existential crises on multiple fronts that will only get worse in the coming months and years if we don’t get a smart, sober, decisive, broadminded leader.

Yet it is humorless, inarticulate clowns, of whom Amaechi is the latest, or opportunistic, emotionally unintelligent religious bigots like Osinbajo, that are indicating interest to lead the nation from the major political parties.

Ideas-driven, non-traditional presidential aspirants like Kingsley Moghalu, Omoyele Sowore, Peter Obi, and even Dele Momodu who don’t have stolen money to throw around to rouse mercenary mobs of supporters are sadly on the margins.

Maybe it’s true, after all, that people deserve the leaders they have.
