Nigerian Muslims Killings: Army Wants To Silence Our Leaders — Shi’ite Cries Out

By Mohammad Ibrahim

Kaduna (Nigeria) — Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shi’ites has expressed concern over attempt by Nigerian Army to silence some of its outspoken members in Kaduna, northern Nigeria.

The Shi’ites alleged that after ‘atrocities’ committed against armless members of the islamic sect in Zaria by the Army, the military is now focused on outspoken members of the movement, threatening the lives.

A statement by the sect spokesperson, ibrahim Musa said, as the soldiers atrocities are coming out to the bare, the Army is becoming jittery.

‪”This is in response to the press statement issued by the Army Spokesperson, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, in which he accused the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and in particular, Dr. Abdullahi Danladi of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, of campaign of calumny and miss-information.‬

‪”Not satisfied with the incessant violation of human rights vividly displayed by the Nigerian Army in its indiscriminate killing of armless civilians, including women and children, Colonel Kukasheka Usman is now further engaging in another round of violating a citizens right to express himself.‬

‪”Whatever Dr Abdullahi Danladi might have said that is provoking a threat to his life by the Army Spokesperson would not be anything less than what several human right groups especially the Human Rights Watch have stated.‬

‪”This is because the Army had earlier underestimated the responsiveness and pro-activeness of the Islamic Movement in its efforts to cover-up its mess and now that everything is coming out to the bare, the Army is jittery with the outcome.‬

“What is now left for the Army and the government is to threaten the lives or even eliminate those they could blame for letting the world know of their crimes instead of taking corrective measures.

“We call on all well meaning individuals and groups to rise against this gross violation of human rights and remind the Army that Nigeria is under a democracy and every person has the right to express himself and give account of what he knows especially of the military atrocity on the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.‬

‪”It is the duty of Nigerians to say no to impunity and misuse of office by the Army Spokesperson to threaten lives of individuals especially those who stand against injustice.‬

‪”We see this as a signal of the Army’s intent to silence anybody that dares says anything that does not portray the Army in good light, even after the atrocities committed,” the statement reads.

Nigeria: Kaduna Government Demolishes Zakzaky’s Family House

By Mohammad Ibrahim

Kaduna (Nigeria) — Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, northwest Nigeria has ordered the demolition of all structures belonging to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, including his family house, located in Jushi quarters of Tudun wada Zaria.

KASUPDA under the protection of security agents also razed down what remained of the shi’ites temple, Husainiyya and Faudiya Islamic centres.

This was contained in a statement by the Shiite spokesperson, Ibrahim Musa made available to newsmen in Kaduna.

The shi’ites also said they are irked by the demolition of another newly bought property adjacent the Husainiyya, a former NTC compound, which the government destroyed on Tuesday.

According to the group, that compound has been in existence since the colonial times.

“Governor El-Rufai didn’t stop at that, his government’s KASUPDA demolished our Fudiyya Islamic centre, where we were holding our Islamic programmes before relocating to Husainiyya about five years ago.

“That building was also duly occupied by us and was built by the owner over thirty years ago. It was in the midst of other people’s houses.

“Today also KASUPDA demolished the family house of Sheikh Zakzaky wherein lies the remains of his mother who died a year ago. The house is located in Jushi qtrs of Tudunwada Zaria.

“We condemn this act of brutality against the Islamic movement. This atrocity is a pointer to the fact that, while the government is busy telling the public that they want peace to prevail after the massacre, but at the same time, it is out to provoke us more.

“We believe if the government is truly searching for avenues for peaceful resolution to this crisis, the government should be seen by all to be following due process in whatever breach they are accusing the Movement.

“We are calling on the Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to desist from exploiting our patience and endurance and stop further destruction of our properties,” he said.

Egypt: Military Court Sentences Brotherhood Chief, Others To 10 Years Imprisionment

An Egyptian military court sentenced on Tuesday Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie and other senior leaders to 10 years in jail for murder and inciting violence.

The court sentenced Badie, the Islamist organization’s spiritual leader, over violence in the north-eastern city of Suez in August 2013.

Brotherhood leaders Mohamed El-Beltagy and Safwat Hegazy also received 10-year sentences in the case after they were convicted of “killing around 33 civilians, inciting violence, rioting” and setting fire to churches and army vehicles.

The charges stem from violence in Suez that came in the aftermath of the security forces’ deadly dispersal of a sit-in in Cairo’s Rabaa El-Adaweya by supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi that left hundreds dead in August 2013.

Ninety co-defendants were handed life terms in the same case, which amounts to 25 years in Egypt.

Fifty-six others were sentenced between three to seven jail terms, all in absentia, and 50 were acquitted. Badie has faced numerous trials and has been handed two death sentences and five life sentences in separate cases, which can still be appealed.

Beltagy and Hegazy stand trial in several other cases along with other leading Brotherhood members, including Morsi himself.

Morsi was ousted in 2013 after mass protests against his one-year rule. Hundreds have been killed in street violence since, and thousands, mostly Islamists, have been jailed and hundreds more have been sentenced to death, though many have won retrials.
