One of the residents of the settlement who escaped the attacks, Oriwa Hammadu however said 45 women and children were killed by the attackers adding that the Bachama militias singing war songs had on Monday evening launched attacks at the fulani settlements in Shafaran, Shawal, Gumara, Kikam and Kadamti villages which are predominantly Bachama areas.

“The attacks came when all the men were out of the areas, many had gone to market and wedding ceremony in Mayo-Belwa, so it took us by surprise.

“I was on my way back from Numan town market, when I saw smokes billowing out from our settlements, and minutes later I saw some Bachama Militias coming to our settlements.

“So, I had to sneak to save my life, but they killed our children, women and burnt houses they came with dangerous weapons chanting war song in Bachama dialect with machetes, daggers and Dane guns.

“Both the injured and the corpses were evacuated to Numan General Hospital,’’ said Oriwa Hammadu, a fleeing resident.

Speaking shortly after the funeral of those killed, the North East chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Mafindi Danburam said over 60 people were earlier declared missing but later 45 were found killed by the attackers .

“We have just observed the funeral rites of 45 bodies of women and children here in Numan we are still searching for remaining missing people, we want government to as matter of urgency swing into action by investigating those involved so as to avoid a reprisal.

Danburam alleged that the attackers were some Bachama youths in the area who had been threatening the herdsmen to vacate the area.

“Build up to this attack, the district head of Numan had summoned all the Fulani leaders and ordered them to leave their domains, he even threatened that there will be attack. And all pleads by the Fulani heads to no avail,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Martins Babale has visited the area and called for calm.

Babale condemned the incident and that government would do all it could, to fish out the culprits.

UN Court Convicts Mladic Of Genocide Over Bosnia’s Horrors

Former Bosnian Serb military chief General Ratko Mladic smiles during his appearance at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal in the Hague, Netherlands.

The Hague – The United Nations’ Yugoslav war crimes tribunal convicted Bosnian Serb military chief Gen. Ratko Mladic on Wednesday of genocide and crimes against humanity, and sentenced him to life in prison for atrocities during Bosnia’s 1992-1995 war.

Mladic, 75, was found guilty of commanding forces responsible for crimes including the worst atrocities of the war – the deadly three-year siege of the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, and the 1995 massacre of some 8,000 Muslim men and boys in the eastern enclave of Srebrenica, which was Europe’s worst mass killing since World War II.

A three-judge panel at the court formally known as the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia convicted Mladic of 10 of 11 counts in a dramatic climax to a groundbreaking effort to seek justice for the wars in the former Yugoslavia.

Presiding Judge Alphons Orie read out the judgment on Wednesday after ordering Mladic out of the courtroom for the final verdict over an angry outburst.

Descriptions of atrocities read out

Mothers of Srebrenica’s victims clapped when the convictions were read out. Mladic’s son Darko said: “I’m not surprised. The court was totally biased from the start.”

Bosniaks and Serbs watched from near and far as the long-awaited climax approached. Wednesday’s judgment marks the end of the final trial at the tribunal, which was set up in 1993, while fierce fighting was still raging in Bosnia.

Emotions ran high outside the courtroom, with a small skirmish reflecting lingering tensions between Serbs and Bosniaks over the trial and the war.

Despite ailing health, Mladic looked relaxed, greeting lawyers and giving a thumbs-up to photographers in court. He nodded regularly as presiding judge Alphons Orie read out descriptions of atrocities by Bosnian Serb forces, one by one.

Then Mladic’s lawyer asked for a delay because the general was suffering high blood pressure. The judge refused, and Mladic burst out with criticism and was ordered to leave the room.

Zimbabwe: Replacing Mugabe With Vice Could Trigger ‘Constitutional Standstill’ – Expert

Emmerson Mnangagwa (R) and Grace Mugabe

An International Relations expert foresees another impasse in Zimbabwe as the ruling Zanu-PF party readies to replace Robert Mugabe with former Vice President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Dr Kwame Agyeman says there could be a constitutional breach if Mr Mnangagwa is appointed an interim President because he had been sacked as Vice President before Mr Mugabe resigned as President in a surprise turn of events, Tuesday.

“Section 101 of the Zimbabwean Constitution stipulates quietly clearly the hierarchy [of authority] and who should take over in the eventuality of the resignation of the President and the Vice President is to take over.

“But in this case, the Vice President was taken out of his position by the sitting President…at the time [the Vice President was fired] the President hadn’t resigned.

“He was President; he was acting within the remit of his power. So this Vice President has been set aside, then the President resigns.

“So we don’t know who the Vice President is,” he said on current affairs programme, PM Express, on the Joy News channel, Tuesday evening.

Dr Agyeman is of the view that constitutional lawyers in Zimbabwe could kick start what he terms a “constitutional standstill” if they decide to take up the matter.

Zimbabweans jubilated wildly following news that Robert Mugabe’s 37-year rule has come an end.

A letter from Mr Mugabe read out by the speaker of parliament said Mr Mugabe has decided to resign voluntarily to allow for a smooth transfer of power.

The news abruptly halted an impeachment hearing that had begun against him.

The ruling Zanu-PF party says Mnangagwa will succeed Mr Mugabe.

Mr Mnangagwa’s sacking triggered a political crisis, many saw It as an attempt to clear the way for Grace Mugabe to succeed her husband as leader.

The military leadership stepped and put Mr Mugabe under house arrest.

Meanwhile, another International Relations expert, Dr Vladmir Antiwi-Danso, said the assessment by Dr Agyeman is not accurate.

He said although the Dr Agyeman’s argument may hold in law, there was the need to consider the politics that triggered Mr Mnangagwa’s sacking.

President Trump warns NFL boss he must act on take the knee protest

Washington Redskins players take the knee during the US national anthem

The NFL must “get tough and smart” over the national anthem protest because it is “killing” the league, says US president Donald Trump.

Trump has criticised players who kneel for the anthem, a move started by Colin Kaepernick in 2016, to highlight racial injustice and police brutality.

Some NFL owners reportedly believe players could soon be kept in locker rooms during the anthem as a result.

“That’s almost as bad as kneeling,” Trump, 71, wrote on Twitter.

“When will the highly paid Commissioner finally get tough and smart? This issue is killing your league!”

In October, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote to franchises stating the take the knee movement threatened “to erode the game’s unifying power”.

Kaepernick, 30, has been without a team since he opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March and has filed a grievance against team owners.

He first protested by sitting during the anthem before opting to kneel.

President Trump was critical when players followed suit, prompting the move to spread further.

Trump lashes out at LaVar Ball

In separate tweets, Trump branded the father of US basketball player LiAngelo Ball an “ungrateful fool” after he refused to thank the President for his role in securing his son’s release from prison in China.

UCLA basketball players Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were released from detention on shoplifting charges. The three thanked Trump during a news conference after their release but Ball’s father – LaVar – played down the President’s involvement.

On Wednesday Trump tweeted: “It wasn’t the White House, it wasn’t the State Department, it wasn’t father LaVar’s so-called people on the ground in China that got his son out of a long term prison sentence – IT WAS ME. Too bad! LaVar is just a poor man’s version of Don King, but without the hair.

“Just think LaVar, you could have spent the next 5 to 10 years during Thanksgiving with your son in China, but no NBA contract to support you. But remember LaVar, shoplifting is NOT a little thing. It’s a really big deal, especially in China. Ungrateful fool!”

Kaduna, (Nigeria)– A  Kaduna based Non Governmental Organization, Zamani Foundation, has trained 39 farmers and entrepreneurs on best practices in the handling and production of tomatoes.

This is part of the NGO’s economic empowerment and development projects toward reducing the over 45% wastage in tomatoes production in Nigeria annually and conserve about 360 million dollars spent on the importation.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Talatu Zamani-Henry, told the participants that with the abundant natural resources in the country, Nigeria has all it takes to feed herself and generate surplus agricultural product for export.

She lamented that despite  Nigeria was the leading producer of tomato in Africa,  she remained the largest importer of tomato paste in the world due to her inability to convert excess production to alternative products like tomato paste or tomato juice.

Presenting an overview of the training, she explained that the Kaduna training was a step down from the Training of Master Trainers’ in Kano and a similar event one earlier held in Kaduna State.

Participants were introduced to Hygiene and food safety, pack house operations and production controls as well as the use of plastic crates for fresh produce distribution and packing house operations, among others.

Practicals were also carried out in the use of market intelligence in cooperative supply chain, cooperative bylaws, formations and conflict resolutions.

Africa Prime News reports that the training also featured an experiment on how to set up tomato farming with agricultural value chain and bylaws as well as how they would employ the best practices  in carrying out their activities.
