Washington – US forces conducted an air strike against the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shabaab group in Somalia on Tuesday, killing more than 100 jihadists, military officials said.
“In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, US forces conducted an air strike in Somalia against an al-Shabaab camp on Tuesday, November 21 at approximately 10:30 am local Somalia time (0730 GMT), killing more than 100 militants,” the US Africa Command said in a statement.
The operation occurred 200km northwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
The US military has in recent months upped the tempo of its operations in Somalia, conducting a growing number of drone strikes against Shabaab and other jihadists.
On November 13, the Pentagon said US forces had killed 40 Shabaab and Islamic State fighters in a series of Somalia strikes over several days.
The surge in US operations came after President Donald Trump in March loosened the constraints on the US military to take actions against alleged terrorists when they judge it is needed, without seeking specific White House approval.

President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari
By Ahmad Umar
Gombe (Nigeria) –All Farmers Association of Nigeria, (AFAN) an umbrella body of Nigerian farmers has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for revitalizing the agricultural sector through various programmes.
In a communique issued on Wednesday at the end of its North East zonal meeting in Gombe, the Association said the revitalization of the sector has enhanced the productivity of farmers in the country.
“The role of CBN in the provision of quantum amount in the support of agricultural development through its Anchor Borrowers Scheme for crops such as rice, tomatoes, wheat, cassava, maize, etc is commendable,” .
The meeting also agreed that AFAN must have a data base for all its members for easy identification, while there is the need for the association to monitor inputs sold to farmers with a view to reporting adulterated ones to relevant agencies.
It equally calls for the early release of loans and other agricultural inputs at the inception of farming activities (April-May) as this would make effective utilisation of such funds and to be able to pay back on time.
The Association however decried difficulties faced by its members in accessing insurance cover as a result of stringent bureaucratic bottlenecks.
The farmers lamented that some procedural requirements were making it difficult for members of the association to access insurance.
The association therefore called on the National Agricultural Insurance Commission (NAIC) to initiate enlightenment campaign to sensitise farmers on the necessary procedural requirements.

He returned to England for short spells at Reading in 2015, then Coventry City.
Having left Turkish side Kayserispor in 2016, Yakubu was training with National League side Boreham Wood early last season before being offered a contract at Coventry in February until the end of the season by then Sky Blues boss Russell Slade.
But after three substitute appearances under Slade, he did not figure when Mark Robins returned to the club as manager and was released in April.
As well as his 21 goals in 57 games for his country, the ever popular Yakubu scored 96 Premier League goals, more than any other Nigerian and just five fewer than Didier Drogba, the top African scorer in the 25 years since the revamping of the English top flight.
Yakubu played for Nigeria at the 2010 World Cup – but missed a sitter against South Korea
