Nigeria 2019 : AREWA Youth Groups Shift Ground, Endorse Olawepo Hashim

Youth groups from across the northern part of Nigeria are said to have endorsed the Presidential candidate of People’s Trust ( PT), Mr.Gbenga Olawepo Hashim as their choice for the Aso Rock Villa, come 2019.

National Coordinator of a group, All AREWA Young Democrats, (Matasan AREWA na Dimokradiya), Samaila Garba Gari ,said they were specifically, angered by the choice of Presidential candidates of the two major political parties who they alleged, had nothing new to offer in the country.

Speaking with newsmen in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria, Garba Gari said they were thrilled by remarks made by Mr.Gbenga Olawepo Hashim on the plight and future of Nigeria and Nigerians, insisting that now was the time to rally round Mr.Olawepo Hashim because he has the idea to make Nigeria a much better country.

Samaila Garri who said he was speaking for ten other youth groups in the North, explained that they were in Abuja when the Presidential candidate of PT addressed his supporters, adding that they were happy when he promised to pay N50,000 as minimum wage to a Nigerian worker.

According to him,” Mr. Olawepo Hashim is a successful business man who has always been with the poor. He has been engaged in philanthropic activities and hardly spent a day without putting smile on faces.”

“From Hashim’s remarks on that occasion we understand he knows so much about the Nigerian economy and how to improve it,he is knowledgeable about the Nigerian people more than the sitting President and PDP’s flag bearer.”

“We also see him as a third force to be reckoned with,a bridge builder since he has biological link with the North. We have no reason to forsake him,we have every reason to deny others our vote in 2019 because it would surely be a disappointment at the “next level” and the implementation of a selfish ” policy document” we throw our weight behind the other major contenders.”

Samaila Garri said Mr.Olawepo Hashim as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, would attract foreign investment as he was known globally and reputed as a successful businessman.

“We have planned to organize a youth summit where we shall declare our unalloyed support for Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, welcome 20 other youth groups into our fold and map out strategy of convincing our elders, parents and peers in the Northern region on the need to suppport Olawepo Hashim and avoid been deceived by leaders of northern extraction who had continued to recycle themselves in power to our detriment ,” he said.

Nigeria : Rise in Malnutrition Attributed To Non Release Of Counterpart Funding by Government

Rise in malnutrition cases in Gombe State, Northeast of the country, especially among children and nursing mothers has been attributed to the decrease in counterpart funding of health programmes by the state government.

Participants at a workshop on Nutrition Budget Tracking for Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) and Media made the assertion on Wednesday in Gombe.

The workshop was organized by Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC)

The stakeholders were of the opinion that the inability of Gombe State Government to back-up its budgeted funds for nutrition programmes with cash releases has been the reason why malnutrition cases had been on the increase in the state.

As at the month of October 2018, the participants noted, not a single dime had been released from the N150 million approved in the 2018 budget for Nutrition activities in the state.

According to the participants, a visit to one of the Community Management on Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) sites in Gombe metropolis during the workshop showed that an average of 30 women come to the CMAM Centre with their malnourished children once in a week in recent times.

There are other programmes waiting for the release of counterpart funding by the State Government which had been long awaited such as the World Bank Accelerated Nutrition Result in Nigeria (ANRIN), they said

Other major reasons responsible for the rising cases of malnutrition in Gombe state, they said, was the lack of exclusive breastfeeding by mothers and the high level of ignorance among rural dwellers who sell most of their nutritious food items like beans, poultry products, groundnuts, vegetables, grains such as millet among others after the harvest for other needs instead of availing such food items for family use, especially on children.

Participants at the session including traditional rulers, senior civil servants from the State Ministries of Economic Planning and Health also spoke on the need for vigorous enlightenment and advocacy for more attention and funding of the critical sector.

Earlier ,the Programme Officer, Nutrition Advocacy of CISLAC, Mohammed Murtala called for the urgent need for the release of funds for the procurement of RUTF in the State as one of the interventions.

He also stressed the need for the scaling up of CNAM sites from the current four Local Government Areas of the State to all the eleven LGA’s.

Murtala also stressed the need for frequent meetings of the State Nutrition Committee and the Technical working group and the inclusion of the media as well as the creation of Nutrition Agency in the State.

Bandits Kill 10 Vigilantes in Zamfara ,Northwest Nigeria

Zamfara, Nigeria- About 10 members of the vigilante groups are reportedly killed in an ambush by the bandits in Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara state on Monday.

According to a source, the vigilantes who were from Kurya and Kware villages were returning from a meeting in Shinkafi town when they were ambushed by the bandits .

The source added the attack by the bandits led to the death of not fever than 10 of the bandits while others sustained serious injuries.

However, the Zamfara state Police Command said only one vigilante was killed in the ambush by the bandits.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu who confirmed the attack said the command was currently on top of the situation.

Mohammed said the command on 19th November, 2018, received a distress call at about 1805 hours, that vigilante men of Kurya and kware villages in Shinkafi LGA were ambushed by suspected bandits along Shinkafi road, on their way back to their respective villages.

“On receipt of the report, combined team of PMF, CTU and ‘F’SARS led by the DPO Shinkafi quickly moved to the scene for on the spot Assessment. One dead body was recovered while two other victims who sustained gun shot injuries were rushed to General Hospital Shinkafi for treatment”, he said.

The police spokesman added that several motorcycles were littered at the scene with some of them set ablaze.

Mohammed also said bush combing of the surrounding bush search and rescue operations are currently ongoing and therefore called on members of the public to always remain conscious of their personal safety and protection.

“Any suspicious movement or character, they should immediately report to any nearby police station for prompt action”, he said.

The Zamfara state government had few weeks ago approved the recruitment of 8,500 able bodied youths to serve as Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) to assist in intelligence gathering to compliment the security agencies in the fight against banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and armed robbery in the state.

Where does it come from?

Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don’t look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. Kaduna, Nigeria- Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has said that the decision of former president Goodluck Jonathan to concede defeat after the 2015 presidential election was responsible for bringing Nigeria’s democracy to maturity.

Dogara who said this in a remarks at the launching of the book “My Transition Hours” written by the former president in Abuja on Monday, argued that not only did the singular action bring honour to him and place him among the rank of Africa’s statesmen, it also conferred legitimacy to Nigeria’s political process.

He added that the former President deserves to be celebrated for not choosing to take the path of African demagogues and narcissists by relying on the executive powers when he was in authority in order to pursue an ambition of remaining in office.

Going further, he noted that, “In moments of difficulties, great uncertainty such as the presidential elections of 2015, it took only leadership for us to be able to renew our confidence in our political process. “

The speaker recalled the tension that the nation was under during the period which was fully doused when the then President Jonathan “decided, not out of compulsion but as has been amply testified to by the former President of Ghana, out of his own volition, to make that gracious call and I tell you, that gracious call conceding defeat was what changed the narrative of politics in Nigeria.”

He stated, “Your excellency, we celebrate you. Those who chose not to do what you did today are not being celebrated, as a matter of fact if they were to organise an event like this, nobody will even attend and I guess the high point would be the events in Cote d’ivoire involving Laurent Gbagbo and we all know where he is presently, where he has been confined to and that is lesson to anyone who will not want to follow this legacy of honour and dignity that you have established as a standard.

“We celebrate you today because your executive powers conferred you the authority to take a seat among the demagogues and the narcissists of Africa but you refused. You chose instead to take a seat at the table with all those statesmen of Africa and today, you are celebrated. That singular gracious call you put to your opponent was what brought our democracy to maturity and conferred legitimacy to our political process. Nobody ever is going to change that. We celebrate you today because by doing that you have brought honour to yourself and you have brought honour to all those that will identify with you.”

Kaduna, Nigeria- Senator representing Kaduna Central at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, Comrade Shehu Sani has said that the only alternative left for the electorate in the coming election is between freedom and bondage.

He made the assertion on Tuesday during a visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Secretariat, Kaduna, shortly after flagging off his campaign at the premises of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP national leader, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa.

Shehu Sani said: ” in the last three and half years, I have represented the people of Kaduna Central to the best of my ability.

“My presence at the National Assembly is a living testimony to the fact that you don’t need to stay so long at the parliament before your impact can be felt.

“The parliament is the most important institution of the government with people of intellectual capacity, and people of independent minds that can see the needs of their people through various legislative activities.

“In the next few months, Nigeria shall be transiting to the new face in its history, and this is a time for people to make decisions on those that determine their future and this choice will also determined their path”.

Shehu Sani who is the Senatorial flagbearer of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, for Kaduna Central said that the seat is not for sale and also not for thugs but, for people who can stand for the light of the day and dark of the night.

According to him, APC in Kaduna State have failed to deliver on its campaign promises.

” Kaduna is in a state of dictatorship”, the senator said.

Responding to questions from the media, Shehu says: ” PRP is in tandem with my socialist ideology and that is why the party is a movement for liberation of the downtrodden”.

The senator also disclosed that his party has no candidate for the presidential polls, he therefore called on his supporters to make the right choice while voting , saying his decision on who he ( Shehu Sani) will throw his weight behind shall be determined during the polls.

While calling on the media to discharge their responsibility without any fear of intimidation,the PRP Senatorial Candidate urged them to be fair, firm, and remain strong.

Shehu Sani who considered himself as a member of the fourth estate of the realm said that the profession was founded on integrity and therefore stressed the need for practitioners to uphold the ethical values of journalism.
