Governor Nasir Ahmed El-rufai of Kaduna state has said that the Zaria water work which has gulped N25 billion is ready for commissioning.

He said that the newly constructed water plant would supply 150m litres per day to the people of Zaria and environs.

The governor who spoke through the Commissioner for Water Resources, Suleiman Aliyu Lere in Kaduna Thursday appealed to the people of the state to support the state government by paying their bills as at when due of ensure the sustenance of supply of water to them.

He also enjoined the people to safeguard water projects in their areas and report any linkage to the appropriate authority.

“We are happy to inform you that the project has been completed and is being test run and by Saturday, the 27th of May, the 150m water treatment plant will be commissioned.”

He added that Islamic Development Bank had approved a loan of 81 million dollars for the construction of 73 km transmission main station, 10 service reservoirs and 2 booster stations.

“The project overall objective is to improve access  to sustainable potable water supply to Zaria metropolis and environs,” he added.

In a related development, he said contract for consultancy services for the engineering design of Kachia regional water supply earlier awarded in 2014 was re-validated by his administration with a view to exploring the possibility of tapping raw water from Gurara dam for treatment and supply to Kachia and environs.
