Group Mourns Renowned Pillar Of Nigerian Geology, Prof. N.G Obaje…says His Legacy In Clean Energy Is A Light For Nigeria

The Nigerian Paleontological Association (NiPA) says the loss of a visionary geologist, dedicated scholar and  true mentor, Prof.Nuhu George Obaje leaves a void, while his legacy remains deeply woven into Nigeria’s scientific and energy landscape

This is contained in a tribute  titled “In Loving Memory of Prof. Nuhu G. Obaje – A Pillar of Nigerian Geology” by the association’s  Spokesman, Dr. E.G. Maju-Oyovwikowhe, of the University of Benin to inform members.of NiPA of the death.
“Good morning, esteemed members of “NiPA”. With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Prof. Nuhu George Obaje, a visionary geologist, dedicated scholar, and true mentor. Prof. Obaje left us yesterday, and while his loss leaves a void, his legacy remains deeply woven into Nigeria’s scientific and energy landscape.

*A Life of Dedication and Impact*

Prof. Obaje’s name is synonymous with pioneering work in Nigerian geology. As Director of the Centre for Applied Sciences and Technology Research (CASTER) at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, he led crucial research into the Bida and Sokoto Basins, uncovering the hydrocarbon potential of Nigeria’s inland regions. His vision extended beyond research; he was committed to seeing Nigeria thrive in energy independence.

*Trailblazer in Oil and Gas Exploration*

With a focus on Nigeria’s inland basins, Prof. Obaje’s collaboration with the NNPC reshaped our understanding of local hydrocarbon resources. His data and insights laid the foundation for exploration efforts beyond the Niger Delta, particularly in Northern Nigeria. He championed the cause of energy independence with the kind of dedication that has set new standards for our industry.

*Champion for Clean Energy*

Prof. Obaje’s work on “clean-coal technology” was a testament to his belief in sustainable energy solutions for Nigeria.
