The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, a socio-cultural organization acting as an umbrella body representing the people of Southern Kaduna, says it dissociates self from the planned national Hunger protest scheduled to begin on August, 1st.
Addressing a news conference in Kaduna Friday, the National President of the Union, Comrade Tabara SK likened the planned protest to an unpredicted destination sayin
it is more reasonable and meaningful to remain where they are and manage what they know in order to get what they need.
According to SOKAPU President, the State and Federal governments need time with people’s support to succeed in office. “For now, let it be known that SOKAPU is standing with the government at both levels in contrast to participating in any protest in Kaduna State, Nigeria and in the diaspora.
FULL TEXT OF THE PRESS BRIEFING
SOKAPU CONDEMNS AND DISASSOCIATES ITSELF FROM THE NATIONAL PLANNED PROTEST:
The Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU) under the leadership of Comrade Engr. Tabara S.K. disassociates the Union from the planned protest and condemns the motive behind it entirely.
The Union reasons that a well intentioned protest cannot originate from people who just previously claimed that “religion, ethnicity and tribe forbid protests against leaders”!
For now, at least there is respite on insecurity with hope for improvements.
Also, the governments at both Federal and State levels are operating a policy of inclusiveness which marks a clear departure from the immediate past governments in Kaduna state under Mallam Nasiru Elrufai and Nigeria under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
There is hope for more in this regard if only we will be patient and give the present Federal and States’ Governments time to consolidate on their mandates.
The state of the economy is surely not pleasant but the decay did not start from this government. Since every government wants to be successful, the Federal Government under His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Government, under His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Uba Sani, are no exception.
They need time with our support to succeed in office. For now, let it be known that SOKAPU is standing with the government at both levels in contrast to participating in any protest in Kaduna State, Nigeria and in the diaspora.
I will not end this Press Conference without thanking Mr. President for finding my members worthy to work with him in salvaging Nigeria such as the CDS, the D-G of NYSC, the D- G of Cadastral Mining Zone, the Honourable Minister of Environment etc and the support given to my Senator (Barrister Sunday Mashall Katung) in his lobby for a Federal University in Southern Kaduna, we are looking forward to seeing it become a reality. We are seriously ready and willing to work with anyone desiring to make Kaduna State and Nigeria, peaceful and great at this material time under my watchwatch as President of SOKAPU
Signed:
Comrade (Engr.) Tabara S.K.
President.
