Gunmen Kill Four, Injure Four Others In Northern Nigeria

imageKaduna (Nigeria) — Police in Nigeria has confirmed the killing of four persons in northern city of Kaduna by suspected gunmen. Four other persons were injured.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Tijjani Abdullahi, told journalists in Kaduna that the unknown gunmen invaded Gurguzu village, in Igabi Local Government Area of the State on bikes and opened fire on a farmer and three others.

“Immediately, we deployed our men to the area, calm has returned and our men are patrolling the whole place. Contrary to what is been circulated on the social media, this is what actually happened.” He said.

Reports from the community say victims were attacked by the gunmen around 6:00 pm on Monday.

A resident of the area who wants to remain anonymous said, “they just finished prayers and were resting when the attackers strike, killing four of them including the owner of the farm instantly.”

Other information has it that one of the persons killed is a staff of Nigerian oil company – Kaduna Refining and Petroleum Company, KRPC and it is not immediately clear whether the attack was carried out by hired assassins.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to Chairman Interim Management Committee of Igabi Local Government Area, Jabir Khamis, about 500 people from the village have been displaced and his council has been taking care of them.

Tuesday, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has ordered the immediate deployment of a Special Strike Force to Kogi State, in north central region, to combat increasing cases of kidnapping and other crimes.

Idris said “the deployment of the Special Strike Force becomes imperative as the Nigeria Police Force can no longer watch innocent citizens suffer in the hands of dreaded criminals rampaging within Kogi State and its environs”
