imageKaduna (Nigeria) — Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is conducting a four-day special patrol on Kaduna – Abuja express way to ensure zero accident on the highway.

“We are concentrating our attention and resources to Abuja-Kaduna expressway and the other highways because of the high rate of accidents being recorded on weekly bases,” says Corps Marshal, Oyeyemi Boboye, at the commencement of the campaign.

AFRICA PRIME NEWS recently reported on the bad nature of the road, leading to death of scores of Nigerians, including six medical doctors from Ekiti State and Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and productivity, with his family.

The operation would run from June 24 to June 27, and would take special focus on motorists speed, worn-out tyres, overloading, lane violation and other traffic violations.

The operation would run simultaneously in other flashpoint highways in the country, the Ibadan – Lagos expressway and Benin – Asaba expressway.

The three corridors on the spotlight of the operation record the highest accident rate in the country.

FRSC’s mandate is to ensure zero accidents on Nigerian roads, “but we have continued to witness accidents on our roads,” he said.

According to National Bureau of Statistics, last year alone, Nigeria has loss more than five thousand of its citizens through road accidents.

“We would achieve our mandate when we ensure that over speeding is reduced, overloading is reduced, motorists desist from using expired and worn out tyres and obey all traffic rules and regulations, “he said.
