Nigeria: Barring Of All Phone Lines Not Linked To NINs Comes Into Effect- NCC

The National Communications Commission’s directive to telecom operators to bar all phone lines not linked to National Identity Numbers, NINs has come into effect.

The measure which takes effect from this Wednesday Feb 28, 2024 under what the NCC calls ” Matter of Critical National Security”, was re-echoed on Tuesday at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair by the Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, Dr. Aminu Maina.

As a result, many subscribers who failed to comply are reportedly making frantic efforts to link their SIM to NINs at their respective service providers.

The Executive Vice Chairman who was represented by Mr. Reuben Mouka at the NCC Day at the Fair, however reminded subscribers what should be done:-

“To link your NIN to your SIM, a subscriber needs to submit his/her NIN to their respective Service Provider to complete the process of NIN-SIM linkage For subscribers who do not have the National Idennfication Number (NIN), they can obtain theirs from National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) Enrolment Centres of Your Service Providers Customer Care Centres, and you need a valid ID Card and BVN for enrollment.

A subscriber can also link his/her NIN to his/her SIM by sending NIN- your 11 digit NIN to 996 or Dial *996* Your 11 Digit NIN# and follow the prompts. ank his/her NIN to at many at 4 mobile phone numbers per Mobil Network One major objective of linking subscribers’ NIN to SIM is to help improve and enhance national security the country.

Meanwhile, the commission has reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging businesses and service providers to prioritize customer satisfaction and uphold the highest standards of service delivery.

“With our keen interest and commitment to consumer protection, the NCC has implemented measures to safeguard the interest of consumers and businesses alike.

“We have established a robust regulatory framework that promotes transparency, quality of service, and fair competition. “Additionally, we have set up channels for consumer redress, ensuring that consumer, can resolve disputes in a timely and efficient manner.

Earlier, a representative of KADCCIMA had reassured that the Chamber was opened for partnership with NCC in promoting the competitiveness of the nation in the global market arena through value chain development.

“The role of NCC in promoting digital economy by enhancing digital financial inclusion is not only commendable but legendary”, the Chamber concludes..

The NCC Day which accounted for 80% of the visitors to the Fair so far, featured cultural display and Raffle draw during which handsets were won as well as recharge under “Fastest Fingers” .
