Kaduna (Nigeria) — Kaduna State Government has completed the abandoned Romi – Karatudu bridge which it started two years ago.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai has equally mobilized contractors handling the project to complete the remaining work on time.
Residents of the area said the contractor handling the road, TigerCat Construction Company had completed the bridge since February.
They said the road had been opened for use same month.
AFRICA PRIME NEWS gathered that Romi – Karatudu road is among the 32 road contracts awarded in October, 2012 by Late Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, but was abandoned after his demise.
Joseph Onche, an Engineer said completion of the 190 meters bridge project , which is part of the six kilometres Romi-Karadu-Kakau Yakowa road project was made possible by Governor El-Rufai, who “mobilised us contractor the company back to site.”
“We retuned to site November, 2015 after Governor Nasir El-Rufai checked the work and saw that there was need to complete the work. I think he understood the importance of the road to people of area.
“Since then his government has been making response to the payments. But because, we exceed the contract duration, the government has completely withdrawn mobilisation.
“And that for us is another double loss. Now we are working and claiming as we work. The difference is that with mobilisation there is power to move at very fast pace.
“We returned to site November last year and by February we completed it for use.” He said.
