Kaduna (Nigeria) — Nigerian Police Friday paraded 458 suspected Kidnappers in Kaduna, northern Nigeria. This is part of a special crackdown on kidnappers that recently bedevilled the region.
The police had sent its Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Ballah Nasarawa to Kaduna alongside, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) Special Protection Units (SPU) the Intelligence Response Unit (IRU) and the Forensic and Crime Data Unit (FCDU) to ensure success in the operation.
According to AIG Nasarawa, ‘’the police in the past ten days have arrested 8 suspects namely Lawal Usman, Zakari Yau, Mohammed Sani, Sule Bako, Mustapher Sadiq, Babangida Sule, Usman Abdullahi and Bako Shaaban who were arrested in connection of with the case of the three Reverends — Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Dziggau, Rev. Yakubu Talba Dzarma and Rev. Iliya Anto.
‘’The following notorious kidnappers were also arrested in Rigasa: Rabiu Mamuda, Ahmed Aliyu, Stephen Barde, Aminu Hassan, Usman Hassan and Ibrahim Gambo. Some exhibits including a dane gun and some live ammunition were recovered from them.
‘’Similarly Yusuf Musa, Mohammed Tukur Ibrahim and Isah Musa and several others all suspected kidnappers, were arrested in Maraban Jos.
‘’239 other suspects were apprehended in various raid carried out in some identified locations in the entire state. A total of 458 suspects are currently in our custody and are being interrogated and profiled’’ he added.
The AIG lamented the long overdue transfer of some senior police officers in Kaduna, whom he said overstayed in the command for over 25years, some 30years and others 32years, ‘’my second mandate, which is the re-organizing of the command is in progress.
The process will see the transfer of many policemen out of the Kaduna Command, hopefully we will conclude that by next week, though the transfer will be in batches so that vacuums will not be created’’ he maintained.
Already, a new Commissioner of Police had taken over the Command last week.
