The Kano State government has conducted an induction workshop for the new members-elect of the State House of Assembly to prepare them ahead of their inauguration into the 10th Assembly.

Speaking during the induction workshop, the consultant and former Clark of the House, Lawan Badamasi, tasked the members elect to do what is right and give proper representation to their people, as they all have equal voices in the House.

He also enlightened them on proceedings of the House, handling of the Mace, the entrance into the hallowed chambers, ethics of the House, the galleries, and coming into the chamber by the speaker of the House, among others.

According to Badamasi, the essence of the induction was to acquaint new members with the processes of the beginning, the opening of the new Assembly (Proclamation) and how to elect their leadership – Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

“For this purpose, we train them on how to recognise their selves first, the system of voting, the hand vote, voice vote, and how television can be considered for voting when such time and situation arise”, he added.

The Member-elect representing Dala Constituency in the state Lawan Husseni, said over 50 per cent of the members coming into the 10th State Assembly are new Members, hence the need for the orientation.

He noted that about 23 Members are new, while 17 were re-elected.

In his remarks, Amed Ibrahim Karaye, new member-elect representing the Karaye constituency, described the workshop as apt, noting that he has gained more knowledge on how the proceedings and election are being conducted.

“Without this, we wouldn’t know how or where to sit in the chamber, but with the induction, I have gained a lot of experience,” he said.
