Several youths globally are expected to participate in the 7th Edition of the International Youth Conference (IYC) scheduled to begin on April 27-30, 2023 in San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley, California, USA, via live-stream on Facebook, twitter, and YouTube.
The Conference will be held under the theme “Inclusion and Development Through Innovation” with the aim at localizing the Sustainable Development Goals and focus on how local governance and community service work and collaboratively address some of the most pressing challenges.
These include homelessness, youth unemployment, and disparity in digital literacy as well as access in underdeveloped communities.
In an effort to promote the event on the social media, local media and youth groups, Africa Prime News Correspondent in Liberia, Raine Tarka Golegio has been selected to join other influential youths globally in order to embark on such meaningful tasks.
In an exclusive interview in Monrovia, Golegio said his acceptance came approximately a month following formal application to join the media team, an opportunity which was released by Generation Next – Voice of Youth adding that it wasn’t a surprise based on his contributions to the media landscape both local and regional levels as well as international youth groups in information dissemination.
“It was not a surprise to me when I came across an email one evening accepting my application almost a month after I applied. I have been within the circle of disseminating information on youthful opportunities through the media and other groups that I am a member of both home and abroad.
“What is highly amazing is that, it has expanded my network with other influential social media influencers and leaders from across the world as a young professional in the field of journalism”.
Though he will not attend the conference physically, rather, online in promoting the event, Raine Tarka Golegio promised to perform exceptionally with strong conviction of obtaining another opportunity to attend live in pursuance of his professional calling.
“As it’s often said that a thousand miles begins with a single step, though I am not appearing live, but will perform exceptionally to grant me another opportunity to appear onsite in performing my professional tasks”.
Raine Tarka Golegio is also a Producer and Presenter in the Radio Department at the Liberia Broadcasting System in Paynesville City, Liberia. He is the Producer and Presenter of the department’s flagship morning magazine program, INFOMIX Monday’s edition that comes on 6 AM to 6:30.
At the same time, he is the current National Youth Coordinator for Media and Branding at the Young Men Christian Association of Liberia (YMCA Liberia).
The International Youth Conference (IYC) is a direct result of a call to action for youth attending the 68th UN Civil Society Conference (UNCSC), held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, from 26 to 28 August 2019.
Following the 2019 UN Civil Society Conference (UNCSC), some youth convened to launch the International Youth Conference (IYC) with the support of the UN Civil Society Unit, Department of Global Communications and UN-Habitat.
IYC which is designed by Youth for the Youth, takes place twice a year
in hybrid mode.
Its objective is to invest in young people all over the world and empower them in realizing their potential as change makers, social innovators, leaders, thinkers, and strong forces for change in their local communities, nations, and regions.
IYC4Youth is an action-oriented, safe-dialogue platform led by youth leaders focusing on a different theme in every upcoming edition.
