To commemorate the 2023 International Women’s Day, the Family Health Advocates in Nigeria Initiative, FHANI on Wednesday held a capacity building training on DiGiTech for 20 young women in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria .
The participants who were between the ages of 18 and 25, were drawn from different communities including Rigasa, Ungwar Rimi, ROMI and Sabo, all in Kaduna metropolis.
They were given the background on how the IWD started from the early stages as sub regional to become a global affair with a universal theme adopted by the United Nations to recognize women potential towards putting an end to their oppression by men.
The participants were also given the overview of the Rise Up e-learning advocacy project for schools in the State which is being implemented by FHANI.
FHANI Secretary, Mr Benjamin Maigari who rolled out the objectives of the training, tasked the participants to wake up to the challenges, assuring that the future lies in their hands.
He said it was unfortunate to note that in the just concluded National Assembly election, only two female senators emerged from the 109 seats.
Giving an overview of the Rise Up project, the Leader, Miss Grace Yila Maikano said its focus is to empower women, girls, boys and men by providing trainings, funding and connection to a global network to help them achieve meaningful lasting change.
To this end, She said, Rise Up had so far trained 750 leaders across the globe with about 135 million people impacted.
Grace who spoke on the pathetic situation of school dropout in the State due to insecurity, emphasized on the advantages of e-learning with comprehension and understanding in the system.
In her presentation, titled “DigiTALL As A Means Of Gender Equality” another Rise Up leader from AMDF, Miss Joy Gadani stressed the need for women to have equal access to technology, and shouldn’t be limited to men alone.
She said women should discard fears of capabilities and venture out to acquire skills in technology, instead of being fond of sharing pictures on Facebook, unlike men discussing issues.
Gadani who spoke at length on opportunities in digital literacy, advised women to come out of their shells to make friends, network and support themselves as well as partner for their common growth and development.
The participants were also tutored on DiGiTech innovation and Branding by Mrs Rebecca James Belai.
The participants who broke into sessions to identify challenges facing women, were told to consider themselves as Advocates for women emancipation and growth.
The Executive Director of AMDF, that co-host the training, Mrs Sekyen Dadik tasked them not to allow what they had gained to end there, rather, they should go out and learn more.
She enjoined them to use technology to advertise themselves in whatever they do and to impact on their communities.
