The Director General of the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority, KACHMA, Mallam Abubakar Hassan has assured advocacy working groups in the State of government commitment to giving priority to basic health care services, especially to the vulnerable.
It was against this background, the Government on Tuesday, released its monthly N70m for the Authority’s Vulnerable programme, an amount considered by the Director General to be more than the required 25% counterpart fund and 1% equity fund for Basic Health Care Provision Fund.
Mallam Abubakar Hassan disclosed this Tuesday while receiving members of the Legislative Advocacy Initiative for Sustainable Development, (LISDEL) who are Champions of the Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child Adolescent Health activities in the State
The State, he emphasized, has also received N300m against the usual N500m counterpart fund from the Federal Government and that it was awaiting explanation for the short fall.
While informing the advocacy group of the constitution of the Governing Board, the Director General also spoke on the operations of the Authority for both formal and informal sectors and that the Authority’s presence is being felt in the 255 Wards through the involvement of volunteers.
On sensitization, Mallam Hassan noted that a lot had been done, but there was still the need to do a little difference to step forward.
He said KACHMA has stopped the engagement of the third party administrators, which according to him, was wrongly done, resulting in government losing heavily.
Earlier, the group Lead, Amina Lawal acknowledged the impact of the organization’s operations in the State.
She requested for timely cash backing of 25% State counterpart fund and 1% equity fund which was coincidentally released to the Authority shortly before the visit.
Other request by the team was improved access to health information and services for all women, adolescents and youths.
The Advocacy group also suggested proper utilisation of the fund and which the Director General did not only assure, but promised to furnish it with reports on the utilisation.
They Champions pledged LISDEL’s continued partnership with the State in the provision of affordable access to quality health care and primary healthcare optimization.
