School E-learning: Social Media Influencers, Journalists Declare Commitment To Creating Awareness In Kaduna

Date:

A 2-day capacity building on Safe School Declaration, SSD and setting Agenda as well as promoting reportage on E-learning has been held for Social media influencers and journalists.

The training held in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria, was organized by the Family Health Advocates in Nigeria Initiative, FHANI, an advocacy working group implementing the Rise Up project seeking for Policy Document on E-learning for secondary schools in the State.

Giving an overview of the project, the Rise Up Leader, Miss Grace Yila Maikano told the participants that Rise Up is passionate about women and girls as well as men and boys, and is committed to advance gender equity and justice in education and health.

This, she emphasized, is by partnering with visionary local leaders around the world to create future where all people could thrive.

On his part, a Rise Up Fellow, Mr Benjamin Yunana Maigari spoke on why E-learning had become necessary in Kaduna State so as to ensure continuity in the educational pursuits of about 500,000 school dropouts whose future are in jeopardy due to the prevailing insecurity in the State.

On the Safe School Declaration, Mr. Maigari said it was muted out in the Northeast region of the country and later adopted in Oslo, and to which Nigeria became a signatory.
The Declaration, he explained, was to ensure continuous learning, protecting infrastructure and to keep schools, students and teachers safe in times of emergency.
“No matter the effect of the insecurity, learning must continue”,he said.
Mr Maigari who also spoke on Development Journalism, told the participants that gone were the days when journalists only reported issues, but without proffering solution.

The Rise Up Fellow therefore tasked them to always allow human face in their reportage and look for alternative, instead of castigating.

The participants applauded FHANI and declared their commitment to creating awareness on the advocacy project to achieve the desired results.

Members of FHANI advocacy implementation team, headed by the Chairman, Alhaji Bala Muhammad Tijjani, Bunnun Zazzau participated.
