Kaduna (Nigria) — The decision taken by Kaduna State Government on Tuesday to ban sale of fuel in jerry cans is impacting negetively on residents.

By Thursday, major roads and streets in the state capital looked deserted and were virtually empty of cars, as the commodity is almost unseen anywhere, including filing stations.

A litre of petrol is sold at N500 from underground sellers, and this have forced many residents to park their cars at home waiting for availability of the product.

A resident, Mustapha Ibrahim said he “bought a 4 litre gallon of fuel at the cost of N2,000 from the underground sellers. I think Governor El-Rufa’i should reverse the decision on the ban of the products at the black market.”

“Federal Government said the problem will end by today, but there is no evidence that the scarcity will end anytime soon.”

There were reports of policemen on Wednesday carrying out government orders of seizing jerry cans from black marketers, but by thursday other boys were said to sell the products openly.
