The peaceful atmosphere pervading in Kano, the second most populous city in Nigeria and the only State in the Northwest with such conducive environment can not be overemphasized. This is because of the multi- faceted approach against insecurity adopted by Governor Ganduje in order to secure the State since assumption of office in 2015.

At a Parley, titled ” Let’s Talk Nigeria” organised by Kaduna League Of Veteran Journalists held at the Hamdala Hotel over the weekend, Kano State Commissioner for Information, Mallam Mohammad Garba who was the guest, said the Governor had taken security of lives and property seriously, hence the synergy by relevant stakeholders and introduction of community policing.

Under the Community Policing, Garba said, traditional rulers, district, village and ward heads as well as religious leaders are synergized, while there is togetherness among the military, all para military and the police personnel.
All major ethnic groups in the State are represented in the State security council, he emphasized.

Technology, Garba pointed out, should not be ignored in the fight against insurgency.

“It is not enough given vehicles to security operatives alone but technology to track the activities of these criminals”, he said.

The Commissioner disclosed that the State government had spent over Two Billion Naira to establish a military training base in Falgore Forest to dislodge the insurgents migrating from neighbouring States.

With the best tracker in the country, Garba explained, the governor and other top security chiefs “can monitor whatever is happening in that forest”.
” As I’m talking to you now, a lot of military training is going on using what we have provided”: he said.

On politics, Mallam Garba restated Ganduje’s commitment to ensuring that elections are held, political parties are friendly and understanding.
The Commissioner stated that the Governor had already directed arrest of anyone caught with offensive weapons at rallies or political activity as part of measures to curb political thurgery.
He noted that people were using religion to cause disaffection which does not ugur well for the unity of the country.
The Commissioner said it was the ultimate desire of the Governor to leave Kano as the Best peaceful State in the country.
On the national scene, Comrade Garba said President Muhammadu Buhari has done his best not only to Kano but the entire country, citing the number of inherited abandoned projects which he completed, while others at various stages of completion.

A former President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Garba who also spoke on the bail out granted to States by President Buhari for the settlement of salaries of workers said he wished government extended such gesture to the media, especially the problem of
power.
