Social Media refers to the means of positive interactions among people in which they create, share and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.

Contrary to this, some individuals misused the social media to spread out hate and violent messages which could lead to serious crisis across the world.

To educate young people on the negative impact of spreading hate messages on the social media and desist from such malpractices, YMCA-Liberia through its Civil Peace Service has concluded a day long symposium in Monrovia as part of celebrations to mark International Peace Day.

During the event on Friday in Monrovia, the Co-founder of Ezee Market, Christopher Jones narrated to young people from various schools and organizations about the impact of social media and urged young people to use it positively.

He highlighted Misinformation, Disinformation and Mal-Information as ways that many young people are being used to tarnish the reputation of others.

Christopher Jones further indicated some positive usages of the social media giving a case study on his online marketing platform, Ezee Online Marketing which is being used across Liberia to purchase goods online rather than sharing hate messages.

On their part, participants of the symposium lauded the YMCA Civil Peace Service for such an event and promised to serve as Peace Ambassadors in their various communities and institutions.

YMCA-Liberia is making significant impact on the lives of many young people in Liberia through its Civil Peace Service.
