Liberia: Rep. Hopeful Michael Thomas Distributes Food Items To Flood Victims

By Raine Tarka Golegio, Monrovia

Representative Hopeful, Atty. Michael Thomas could be an alternative for change in leadership that the citizens of district #4 Montserrado County are opting for in order to unseat the Incumbent Representative, Rustonlyn S. Dennis as his engagements with the district have taken another route, ranging from providing free mobile clinical services, education empowerment opportunities, microfinance loan, advocacy to humanitarian gesture, Africa Prime News reports.

On Monday July 11 2022, upon his arrival in Liberia from Rwanda where he represented the country at the 4th Constitution Review Conference of the African Organization of the Public Accounts Committee as Executive Director Secretariat of the Joint Public Accounts Committee at the Liberian legislature, Atty. Michael M. Thomas toured district #4 Montserrado County and discovered serious flood diaster affecting hundreds of residents mostly in wetlands and amplified calls to national government in order to come to the aid of the flood victims.

His advocacy didn’t stopped there but on Wednesday July 13, 2022 he further distributed food items to the victims as they earlier cried out that they couldn’t carry on their livelihood activities to earn money and purchase food for their families as a result of the massive flood diaster.

The donation include about sixty bags of 25 kg rice and two hundred-twenty five sacks of sachet water to communities such as: Gaza Community; 20 bags of 25kg rice with 50 sacks of sachet water, Cross River; 25 bags of 25kg rice with 100 sacks of sachet water, and Norvlin Town; 15 bags of 25kg rice with 75 sacks of sachet water.

According to Atty. Michael M. Thomas, the donation was his kind gesture to the people of the affected communities during such period of flood diaster while awaiting the Diaster Management Agency’s intervention as he re-echoes calls for intervention.

He added that devoid of politics, in such a troubling times of natural disasters is when financially potent citizens within their environments must aid their fellow citizens.

Receiving the items, the beneficiaries lauded Atty. Michael M. Thomas for his intervention as they added that his identification with them was timely.

Meanwhile, the flood victims have condemned the Incumbent lawmaker Rustonlyn Suacoco Dennis for failing on her obligation to advocate on their behalf for at least assistance during such period.
