A serious flood disaster has occured in Monrovia, the Liberian capital following a heavy downpour leaving many people homeless.

Africa Prime News reports that about four hundred residents from communities including Paynesville City, Johnsonville, Bushord Island, Japan Freeway are affected by the massive flooding which took place over the weekend and are seeking for aid.

Some of the victims, who spoke to Africa Prime News said the flooding has destroyed their livelihoods and therefore called on government and financially potent citizens to come to their aid.

The victims are currently seeking refuge at the homes of family members, friends and neighbors.

Meanwhile, the consistent flood during the rainy season in many communities in Liberia has been attributed to lack of precautionary measures by the municipal governments and citizens’ deliberate actions to build structures directly on major avenues and misusing drainages for dumpsite.
