Opposition Unity Party in Liberia has rejected the Lofa County senatorial by-election results, indicating to communicate its position with the National Elections Commission.

This is just as ANC Alexander Cummings welcomes the election of Independent candidate, Joseph Jallah.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) over the week announced Independent Candidate, Cllr. Joseph Jallah winner into the Lofa County By-election with 22,019 votes defeating his closest rival, Garlakpai Kortimai of the Unity Party with 21,229 votes.

But contrary to the NEC’s declaration, the Political Leader of the Unity Party, Joseph Boakai on Tuesday during a press conference stated that the current Elections Commission does not represent the people’s interest and should therefore be scrapped and replaced by competent people to steer the affairs of the country’s electoral commission.

He stated that the Election Commission’s reported refusal to carry out replacement of lost voters cards in other parts of Lofa, as well as alleged duplication of the votes cast contributed to the reported irregularities in the by-election.

Meanwhile, Alternative National Congress Political Leader, Alexander Cummings says results from the June 28, Lofa Senatorial by-elections indicate that Liberians are no longer interested in political strong holds.

Cummings in a statement on Tuesday said citizens of Liberia are more concern about being relieved from the ongoing economic nightmare caused by corruption and mismanagement of state resources by the George Weah-led administration.
