Nigeria: Kano Fire Service Confirms 20 Injured in Gas Explosion

At least 20 people have been injured and shops razed following gas explosion that rocked Sheka quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State, north-western Nigeria.
Spokesperson of Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, who confirmed the incident attributed the cause of the incident to a man frying and selling fish near the gas shop that sparked the explosion.
According to him, the Fire Service received a distress call at about 7:04p.m on Thursday from one Adamu Muhd  who reported the fire outbreak at Sheka Karshen Kwalta, Kumbotso LGA.
He said, “on arrival, we found a building of ground floor of about 40 by 40 feet used as a dwelling place and shops engulfed by fire.
“Twenty people were involved and they were rescued and taken to the hospital.”
In May, nine people died in a similar explosion while eight victims including school children were injured in Sabon Gari Area of the state.
