Nigeria: 1,500 Athletes Assemble in Kebbi For Zonal Elimination Ahead of National Youth Games

A total of 1,500 athletes and officials are expected in Birnin Kebbi, for the North West Zonal Elimination for team sports ahead of the 2021 National Youth Games (NYG).

A statement by Zonal Sports Officer, Abdullahi Idris, said the events will hold from 1st – 5th September.

“We have finished preparations and ready for the conduct of the 6th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) Zonal Elimination in team sports,” he said.

According to him, all the seven states that make up the zone, are expected to participate to decide which states will represent the zone at the upcoming National Youths Games in Ilorin, in October.

The Zonal Coordinator commended the efforts of the Chairman, Caretaker Committee (CTC) of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Musa Nimrod and Dr Ukwenya of the Cricket Federation for their assistance in providing playing equipment for the eliminations.

“I wish to sincerely appreciate the efforts of these two great men for their support.

“Their support is encouraging, remarkable and worth sincere appreciation,” he said.

He therefore, called on members of the public to throng the venue, Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.

“It promises to be thrilling and exciting, featuring U-15 athletes, who are in high spirits, fully skilled, talented and young promising individuals,” he said.
