Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has stated that his administration is working towards having a global curricular where people can be trained on various skills while in school and create jobs upon graduation from school.
The Governor disclosed this at the 22nd graduation and Prize-giving Day ceremony of El-Amin International School in Minna, Niger State Capital.
The Governor who was the Special Guest at the event, also explained that owing to the importance his administration attaches to education, he has declared a state of emergency in the sector, adding that the state government is also working out modalities to come up with Intermediate Education System to serve as guide to those interested in various aspects of University education in Nigeria
Speaking at the graduation, Governor Emmanuel charged the 2021 graduands of El-Amin International School to imbibe good attitude and virtues as they go into the wider society.
He emphasised that the graduands must ensure they display good attitude as it shapes their altitude urging them to be self-determined, show proper character and strive to make their families and country proud.
“I want to remind you that, as you lay your bed so you shall lie on it.
“It is your attitude that will shape your altitude. So, no matter how you see yourselves today, know that the greatest thing that will help you succeed in your lives is your attitude and the level of integrity and character you exhibit.
“I charge you all to imbibe these virtues as you go into higher institutions. This is the time to set goals and standards and to also aspire for their realization.
“You must do everything possible to bring happiness, good name and impact into your families”, he said.
The Governor then challenged parents to make sure they invest in the education of their children, pointing out that “the greatest part of education is the tutoring, mentorship, indoctrination as well as guidance given by parents.
“The parents have a lot to do in shaping the character, attitude and behavioural pattern of these young children which teachers alone cannot do.” He added.
Governor Emmanuel then commended the Niger State government for it immense contribution to the growth and development of education in the state and also appreciated the management of El-Amin
International School for their efforts, sacrifices and investment in promoting quality education in the state in particular and the country in general.
The ceremony was attended by dignataries including the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ado Doguwa and the Emir of Minna,HRM, Umar Farouk Bahago.
In the Governor’s delegation were the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom SAN, Commissioners for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affiars and Information & Strategy, Hon. Frank Archibong and Comrade Ini Ememobong, respectively.
The Governor later paid a courtesy visit to former President, General Ibrahim Babangida (GCFR) rtd and Ex- Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (GCFR) rtd.
