National President, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of Nigeria, Haruna Danjuma, has called for the establishment of an Education Foundation to support children of the poor to continue their educational studies in Kaduna State University.

“We are begging Dangote, BOA Group Company, and other wealthy individuals from northern part of the country to help the poor children toward continuing their educational career,” the national president told journalists, while calling on top politicians, companies, banks, top musicians and other celebrities to help students in paying their school fees.

The chairman who noted the demonstration by students against the increase said, the hike in tuition fees will discourage students from underprivileged families from continuing their studies.

“Most students find it difficult to pay the N26,000 fees, with few dropping out of school,” he said.

Recently, Kaduna State Ministry of Education announced about 500% increase in tuition fees in all its tertiary institutions.

The PTA President who described the increase as “outrageous” considering the current economic hardship and negative impact of COVID-19, appealed to the government to review its position.

“Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria is still begging the state government to reverse the school fees to save our children,” he said.

Mr. Danjuma equally called for improved security measures in all Nigerian schools to protect them from attacks by bandits, terrorist and kidnappers which is currently affecting education system in Nigeria.
