Family Planning programme in Kaduna State is being threatened by the continued shortage of commodities.

Already, the Contraceptive Prevalence Rate, CPR in the State, has dropped from 24% to an unimaginable level due to the inadequate supply.

State Co-ordinator, Reproductive Health, Hajiya Nafisat Musa Isah expressed this fear on Wednesday in Kaduna at the Annual Breakfast meeting of the Family Health Advocates in Nigeria Initiative, FHANI.

She spoke of the urgent need to restock the commodities to close the gap created by the inadequacy which began mid last year.

She told the meeting that the programme requires additional funding to purchase the commodities for which efforts were however being made.

Hajiya Hafisat lauded the activities of FHANI which she said, led to the creation of budget lines for family planning programme in the State, as well as subsequent releases and cash backings by the government.

This avowed commitment, she stated, had made Kaduna to stand tall among States in any family planning forum.

Welcoming the participants, Chairman of FHANI, Alhaji Bala Tijjani, thanked them for their collaborative efforts which resulted in the achievements recorded in the programme and enjoined them not to relent.

He reminded them that Kaduna was the only State in the country with budget lines since 2017 for family planning which have continued to increase annually.

In his contribution, the Acting Secretary of the NGO, Iliya Kure said the meeting which was a follow up to that of last year, was to appreciate the present state of child birth spacing and the 2020 funding needs.

The Acting Secretary also noted with delight that Kaduna is on the world map because of the successes in family planning arising from the collaborative efforts of the stakeholders.

The Participants who were drawn from the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Planning and Budget Commission, Ministry of Finance and the State House of Assembly, suggested ways toward arresting the threat posed to the family planning programme.
