Senata Shehu Sani

In what could be described as ‘enough is enough’ communities from Birnin-Gwari and Chikun in Kaduna as well as others from Zamfara States on Tuesday thronged the residence of a Human Rights Activist and Member of the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani with a protest letter for onward submission to the National Assembly over their plights.

The Communities said they could no longer withstand the calamity befalling them hence the need to cry out.

Receiving the letter, Senator Sani blamed northern leaders of being sycophants resulting in the seemingly unending bloodshed.

“One of the problems of northern leaders is sycophancy which is now making the Northern bleed under the security challenges.

“We have no Jonathan or Obasanjo to blame for the insecurity in the north”, he reemphasized.

Sani who frowned at the level of insecurity in the region, tasked the residents in affected areas under the siege of kidnappers and bandits “to rise to question and challenge those in the position of authority to do what is right”.

“Kidnapping is what we used to hear from far distance in the Niger Delta and South Eastern part of the country in the last fifteen to twenty years. When people are facing this kind of danger and tragedy, the most ideal, is to face the situation and question those that we have elected into position of authority.

“The situation in Birnin Gwari is one that reflects the tragedy and danger that we are facing in the northern part of the country today. Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kajuru, Zamfara, Katsina, Niger and some parts of Sokoto states are under siege.

“Northern Nigeria today is under siege, in the North-West, there are issues of banditry. In the North-Central, there are issues of herdsmen, while in the North-Eastern Nigeria, there are terrorism.

“If the Federal Government is responsive to Zamfara issues, it is because the state government has admitted that the state is under siege of banditry and kidnappers”, Sani lamented.

Lamenting further over the security challenges that have been unabated, Sani said “the situation has forced people to resorting into buying anti bullet charms for protection”.

Earlier, Leader of the coalition from Birnin Gwari , Mallam Nasir Khalid in the letter presented to the Senator said  several communities have been  under attack of Armed Bandits from the eve of the general elections to date.

He said Forty drivers were killed in the last three months, while several communities in Kaduna, Zamfara and Katsina States were ransacked.

Mallam Khalid lamented that the Government has continued to pay lip service to arresting the insecurity that have pervaded the north, and therefore urged the Senator to deliver the letter to the National Assembly for immediate intervention.
