A Non Governmental Organisation, IPAS Nigeria has donated hospital equipment to 29 health facilities in Gombe state north-east of the country.
This gesture is aimed at reducing maternal mortality in the north-east geopolitical zone.
Country Director, Hauwa Shekarau who was represented by Dr. Babatunde Adelekan, Senior Adviser in the organisation presented the equipment to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ishaya Kennedy, in Gombe on Tuesday.
She said that Nigeria contributed to the significant ration on maternal mobility and child mortality deaths in the world.
“Nigeria contributed a lot in the high rate of maternal death resulting from pregnancy complication in the state and north-east zone at large.
“In view of that IPAS seeing the need of intervention to the health care facilities in the North-east, like training the health workers on capacity building and equipped the facilities to give the health workers Chance to deliver good service to the people.
Shakarau said the organisation has carried out many interventions in the health care service delivery in the state.
She said the organisation has training health workers in building their capacity, adding that the they supplied the equipment for the betterment of the women and children .
Also speaking the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ishaya Kennedy said that the intervention will reduce the high rate of maternal mortality deaths due to complications resulting from Pregnancy.
He urged the health managers in the benefiting health facilities to intensify efforts towards reducing the maternal death to the barest minimal.
