Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ has linked herdsmen to what it called the barbaric massacre and genocide taking place in Benue State and the entire north central and western part of the country.
In a communique issued after the union National Working Committee, NWC meeting held at Yankari, Bauchi, the union urged the federal government to as a matter of urgency tackle the current security challenges facing the country.
According to the communiqué, “The NWC notes that Nigeria is faced with many security challenges and has posed serious threats to social, economic and political stability not only in Nigeria, but the entire African continent.”
NUJ also condemned in totality the increasing spate of kidnappings and called for the immediate overhauling of security apparatus to cope with the menace of threats.
The communiqué further frowned at the activities of herdsmen and criminal gangs in North central and the West, pointing out that, the menace has assumed a frightening dimension, especially in Benue States and Birnin Gwari axis of Kaduna State.
“We want the Federal Government to urgently take all the necessary measures to avert anarchy in the country.
“However, we also enjoin security agencies to improve on their intelligence to tackle threats in all facets,” the communique emphasised..
