Kaduna Local government elections kicked off 3 hours late before the arrival of election materials in Narayi Ward of chikun local government Area, north west of the country with two extra electronic voting machine discovered
The two extra machines which carried the name Doka Ward were said to have been mistakenly collected alongside those allocated to the Narayi Ward, according to the State Independent Electoral (SIECOM) officer incharge of the Ward. However, PDP agents told newsmen at the Ward that it was an attempt by the APC government to ring the election.
Attempts by the SIECOM official to take the machines back to the Commission’s office was prevented by the party Agents who feared that it could be taken to an unknown location to rig the election.
A former Vice Chairman, Chikun Local Government and the Youth leader in the Ward, Ephraim Musa and Paul Katuka respectively told newsmen that they did not have problem with the use of the electronic voting at the ongoing elections, but that SIECOM must ensure that the peoples’ choice should be allowed to emerge.
A voter, Bakoshi Ephraim expressed dissatisfaction with way and manner the distribution of the materials was taking a long time, saying that the state government had announced that the election was going to kick start by 6am in the morning, but rather started by 11 am “here”.
Also, Musa Yahaya who spoke on the conduct of the elections called on the government to always allow the electorate to elect who to represent them and not an imposition through rigging as tempted to do with the extra electronic machines Uncovered at the Ward.
