Gombe (Nigeria)- Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe state, northeast of the country has sought for  support from members of the public towards ensuring safety on the roads.

The State Sector commander, Godwin Omika, made the appeal in Gombe on Thursday while briefing news men as part of activities to mark the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of the Corps.

“Many organizations and Agencies that were established with FRSC have collapsed but we and the National Orientation Agency have made it.

“Our mandate is to reduce road crashes to the barest minimum as well as rescue those involved in a crash.

“Therefore I am calling on the general public to collaborate with us to enable us achieve our mandate.” he said.

According to him, FRSC alone cannot do it, but with the help of the general public, the rate of  road crashes will reduce.

Omika said the FRSC has been partnering with stakeholders such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and sister agencies to ensure the safety on the roads.

Gombe state government, he added, has assisted the command in numerous ways which had contributed immensely to the success of the corps.

As part of activities marking the anniversary, officers and men of the command, Special marshals, NURTW  in a motorcade, went round the major streets of Gombe with public address system sensitizing the people on safety of the road.

On Saturday, there will be public lecture and interaction with the public as well as a Novelty match between Regular and Special Marshals.
