Gombe (Nigeria) – A Local Government Council in Gombe state, northeast of the country, has announced the take-over of financial burdens of 37 Girls education, child from Junior Secondary to Senior Secondary school.

 

Chairman of the Council, Ibrahim Yusuf, who disclosed this in his office at Bajoga, the headquarters of Funakaye LGC, said, it was aimed at promoting girl-child education in the LGC, which hitherto had only one female secondary school.

 

Mr. Yusuf who emphasised the importance of girl-child education said, “Its impact in the society is numerous including improving the individual, causing her to be productive and not a burden to the society, improving the economy of the society through various means such as environmental sustainability, lower illiteracy rate which also leads to poverty rate

 

“The girl-child education needs to be educated to acquire knowledge and skills needed to advance her status for social interaction and self-improvement girl-child education also prepare her to face the reality in society and teaches her to be a good wife and mother

 

He said, the council has donated over 50 rooms to the newly established Gombe state Polytechnic in Bajoga to serve as boy’s hostel and JAMB forms were also purchased for less privileged in the area.

 

The Chairman also said the council has repaired the ambulance which was grounded for years, renovated the cold store and taken a pro-active measure by supplying drugs in case of outbreaks of disease with aimed to boost the health sector in the area, adding that within his 10 months in office, he provided a central motor park and grain market in the area.

 

“We have decided to provide a conducive place for grain merchants because our people are predominantly farmers and our People come from all over the country to purchase grains and even outside the countries like the neighbouring Niger republic and Cameroon” he said.

 

According to him, in the area of electrification 64 poles which were destroyed by windstorm were replaced and 500 KV generator was purchased by the council which is now serving some villages.

 

He said four solar boreholes were rehabilitated within Bajoga town, and also the Earth dam in Wawa village was expanded for domestic activities.

 

“Initially they were using the Earth dam for domestic activities at the same time drinking, and now we have allocated a water tanker to be supplying drinking water twice daily to the community” he said.

 

The chairman also said, in the area of Agriculture, they have repaired four tractors which the council allocate to serve those in need at affordable price.

 

Yusuf also said in the area of infrastructure, the LG in collaboration with state government embarked on the construction of 8.8km township roads and five kilometres was successfully completed.
