Gombe (Nigeria) – Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State, northeast of the country has urged local government council chairmen to diversify sources of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to reduce over dependence on the Federal monthly allocation.

Governor Dankwambo made the call on Tuesday during a two day workshop for LG officials on Continuity of Talba Good Governance Legacies and Political Stability in the state organized by a private initiative, Sa’da Summit limited in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Government.

Dankwambo who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Charles IIiya said that over dependent on the oil revenue would no longer reassuring to record more development at the grass root and the state as whole.

He therefore urged the participants to actively participate and to make maximum use of the knowledge acquired for the overall development of their respective LGAs and the state.

Dankwambo assured that government would continue to do everything possible to provide dividends of democracy to its citizens and solicited for their cooperation in supporting government programmes and providing conducive atmosphere for the sustenance of good governance by his administration.

Also speaking, Sani Indabawa, a Consultant and lecturer at Bayero University Kano, said that the objectives of the workshop were to mobilize and give skills to LG officials on the role that they were expected to play in promoting and sustaining government legacies for future.

His word, “One of the challenges of Politics and governance in this country is instability of policies and in governance, once something good started by an administration and is no longer in office, another administration come’s they want to start a fresh and abandon those projects.

“But there are policies, programmes and projects that are of high benefit to the people and so people in government must begin to appreciate that service is about continuity, creating condition for stability”, he said.

Also Speaking , the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ahmed Walama, said that the workshop was organized for ensuring manpower development, effective and efficient service delivery as well as to realize political stability and continuity in governance and development process.

Walama said this would enable participants to maintain and sustain achievement recorded by the present administration in the state.

“It is well known fact that the LG to effectively and efficiently sustain and maintain legacies of these administration, the objectives of this workshop has to be fully applicable.
