Nigeria: PDP Wins State Assembly Bye-Election In Gombe

Gombe (Nigeria) — The ruling party in Gombe state, northern Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has won the Bye-Election into State House of Assembly, conducted on Saturday. 

 

The bye-election was to occupy the vacuum created by the death of Gambo Kabade, representing Dukku North Constituency, who died on 29th June 2017. 

 

Announcing the result early hours of Sunday, around 12am, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Returning officer, Professor Mohammed Sani Sa’idu said the PDP candidate, Sa’idu Kawuwa Malala was elected, pulling 7,060 votes casted in the election.  

 

Sai’du Kawuwa Malala defeated 6 other contesters to emerge winner. According to the returning Officer, votes by other parties were as follows, APC 4022 votes, ADPN 31 votes, GPN 29 votes, LP 29, Accord 8 votes and Action Alliance 8 votes.

 

Three polling units in Malala ward were cancelled following the total number of votes casted exceeding the total of accredited voters.
