Nigeria: World Bank Commences Distribution of Farm Inputs To IDPs, Host Communities In Gombe

Gombe (Nigeria) — Fadama III World Bank Additional Financing (AF) Program, has begun distribution of farming inputs to 820 households of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Host communities in Gombe state, Northeast Nigeria.
 
Communication officer, Fadama III  Additional Financing program in Gombe Malam Mohammed who disclosed this while Speaking to news men in Gombe Friday, said there are also 159 dry season farmers who will be receiving the inputs soon.
 
He said the items were 10 Kg bag of maize for each household, two herbicides and two insecticides.
Mohammed said, some of the beneficiaries that requested for rice were equally given 50 kg bag of rice — each household, two herbicides and two insecticides.
 
He said, in a week time, they will start distributing fertilizers, urging the beneficiaries to utilize the farming inputs they received.
 
The communication officer, said there were 2,080 IDPS and host communities households earmarked to benefits from Fadama programme.
 
According to him, those that indicated interest in rain fed farming were the ones receiving now and subsequently dry season farmers.
 
He said those that indicated interest in livestock rearing and poultry would be given livestock’s and chickens soon.
 
Commending the Federal Government through the Fadama project, District Head of Kindiyo in Balanga Local Government, Nathaniel Kiki, said the intervention will go a long way in transforming the lives of the IDPs.
 
‘Fadama has brought hope to IDPs by giving them a means of livelihood” he said.
 
Speaking on behalf of Nyuwar/Jesu IDPs Mr. Amfani Hazel commended the Federal Government for the wonderful initiative aimed at making their lives better.
He assured Fadama that they will make use of the items given to them judiciously.
 
Also speaking Abba Jato, Chairman IDPs Gombe commended Fadama for fulfilling their promise as well as the state coordinator, Habiba Mohammed for keeping to her word.
