The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has dismissed reports circulating on social media and other platforms alleging that its executive committee and members have defected to another political party.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party described the claims as false and misleading, saying no member of its executive at any level, or its general membership in Kaduna State, has defected to any other party.
The State Chairman of the SDP, Hon. Adamu Idris, said the rebuttal became necessary following inquiries from party members and members of the public seeking clarification on the reports.
He reaffirmed the party’s loyalty to the SDP’s leadership at both state and national levels.
According to the statement, the Kaduna chapter remains fully aligned with the national leadership of the party under the
National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, and National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye.
The party also addressed claims by individuals purportedly moving from the SDP to other parties, insisting that such persons were never bona fide members.
It accused some “political wanderers” of attempting to associate with the party without following the proper registration procedures outlined in its constitution.
“The SDP in Kaduna State is intact and focused,” the statement said, adding that the party plans to commence a mass membership registration drive after the Christmas and New Year holidays ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party therefore urged interested citizens to join through the appropriate ward-level processes and reiterated its commitment to offering an alternative political platform for change and hope.
The SDP concluded by wishing the people of Kaduna State a peaceful transition into the new year.
