Meet 2025 AMDF Journalist Of The Year (Tv Category) NASIRU SAIDU

Date:

Citation: Nasiru Saidu is the Chief Executive Officer of NASS Media World.
An innovative graduate of Mass Communication and Television Journalism from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Saidu is passionate about using media skills to build and promote communication that showcases the supernatural power of God in people’s lives through true-life stories.
With this conviction, Nasiru Saidu—a documentary producer, reporter, camera operator, and nonlinear editor—undertook a heartfelt story titled “Mother’s Shocking Sacrifice.”
The story draws inspiration from the real-life experience of a 52-year-old widow in Anguldi, Jos, Plateau State, whose life tells a story of love, sacrifice, and strength.
For 17 years, she has risen before dawn to sell akara, yam, and sweet potatoes.
After losing her husband, she carried the burden of raising six children alone, working tirelessly to give them a better future through education.
Her story, captured on YouTube, embodies the resilience, sacrifice, and determination of many women across Nigeria who bear the weight of family survival in the face of hardship.
The story captures the emotional and physical toll of widowhood, poverty, and the daily hustle for survival, as seen in the video through her early-morning routine of preparing and selling food to support her family.
The YouTube documentary further shows how the widow processes the beans—from washing to grinding—ignites the firewood, and fries the akara, yam, and sweet potatoes despite harsh conditions.
In the course of this work, Nasiru Saidu identifies economic hardship, lack of social support for widows, and the burden of single parenting in a society where women often have limited access to opportunities.
Amid these challenges, the widow’s life reveals the quiet heroism of ordinary people—the strength of a mother who refuses to give up despite grief and adversity.
Her ability to maintain joy and gratitude despite years of hardship serves as both an inspiration and a powerful reminder of human resilience.
It also shows that with sacrifice and determination, losing a husband does not end a family’s survival—hence, the need for society to support such women.
The headline was aptly crafted, the narrative comprehensive, and the camera work commendable.
From the foregoing, Nasiru Saidu has demonstrated best practice in journalism and is hereby declared 2025 Journalist of the Year (TV Category). Congratulations.
